L35 Head Swap

...hey guys I did a search and couldn't find the answer to my question. I have replaced my stock heads with L35's on my 92' Typhoon. The heads have the have the screw in studs which are longer than the stocks; about a 1/4 inch longer. When I went to adjust the rockers in accordance with the repair manual, they seemed a bit tight and the valve appeared to not close all the way when manually rotating the motor. Did I miss something in doing this swap like using shorter rods or something?

Just as a general rule you need to be sure that cyl being adjusted is on TDC COMPRESSION. Also be sure when you bring the nut down that you are very careful locating the -0- lash point. I've got a link somewhere that will help with the first, I'll find it and post it up.

OK here's my post:

Firing Order:

165
432

to adjust cyl 1 watch 4, 6 watch 3, 5 watch 2, 4 watch 1, an so on.

When the exhaust valve on the cyl you're watching just closes and the intake just opens (overlap) adjust the corresponding cyl in the list.

...so I guess I have a couple more questions. Are valve adjustments necessary on L35 heads or do I just screw the nut all the down? On stock heads I know I have to utilize the process you described but the difference in stud length has to make a difference and have some kind of effect.

...on the swap I used stock rods. Is there a difference in length between stock (LB4) rods and L35 rods?

Re: L35 Head Swap

L35s have non-adjustable valve trains.

Having never seen L35's, if they use studs how are they non adjustable? I do know that the original Pontiac V8's used studs and were non adjustable. The rocker ball came down onto a shoulder on the stud I believe. (Been a while:roll:)

Thx

Re: L35 Head Swap

Same deal, Don. The nut (non-prevailing torque, washer-nut) bottoms on a shoulder on the stud. I'll take a pic later, if interested.

Dave

Nope, that'll do. Thanks Dave.
