Key stuck in taligate

Ok so as it reads the key for my tailgate is stuck inside the lock. I do not remember having any problems with this before. I spent over 40 minutes jiggling the key and moving the lock as I wiggle and push on the key w/o luck. I hit the relase buttom while pulling on the key, nothing. I even put some pliers on there and still no luck with the extra force. Any way, I can use the remote switch or the key fob to open the hatch but, I need to get this key out of the lock for security. What would a locksmith do to get the key out if I took it to one? Is there a penetrant fluid that may work (graphite/lock defroster)? I do not see how I can get something in there with the key inside already. I could remove the whole lock set if needed but I do not want to have three keys for the truck if I can help it.

TIA

Take the lock out and bring it to a locksmith. About $20.00 should get it fixed and keyed.

Pretty funny, smart guy. It was late and I was screwing with the 'O so fun, heater core replacement' and did not need any extra aggravtion but, it was the right key. I had a few beers lifted a few left handers too so, I know that had nothing to do with it.

Take the interior panel off the gate and WD-40 the crap out of the cylinder from the inside.

I'll try this first thing when I get home tonight. If it does not work I'll remove the lock cylinder as mentioned above.

Mine had similar problems, but I WAS able to get it out, but had problems getting it in, and turning it smoothly. Ended up pulling it out and the guts feel out of it once I pulled it out. I ordered a new one from DAL and it came with various bags of pins of different sizes.

I was able to look at the keys I currently had for the doors and back hatch, and put the correct pins in the lock, reinstall it, and it worked great. Over time, they wear out, and this one was shot.

If you cannot get the key out, you may just want to buy a new one, re-pin it to match your other key, and reinstall it.

I hope I do not have to do this but, can you give me a link or more info on DAL?

TIA
