Jasper engines

Re: Jasper engines

I can't see the harm if they are using my parts and basicly just boring and howning the block. Doing a valve job on my L35 heads, using my crank and cam. realy all I'm getting new is valves and gaskets. If possible I'd like the names of the people who have had good and bad experiences from jasper this year on engines only. i would never let thEm work on my trans so that is irrelivant. And by the way I hate inbread volunteers too.

Re: Jasper engines

I'm getting a full build sheet and everything will be in writing. I don't mean to disrespect anyone but I do have a budget, it's not everyone who can throw 10k at a truck, it would be nice but i have a 65 catalina convertable and a 64 impala I'm working on too. personally I have rebuilt 2 complete engines and have done more cams and timing chains then I can remember. Once again thanks for the input.

Re: Jasper engines

Get everything signed in writing and do them a favor and get them a specs and tolerances build sheet . Yeah they know how to build a motor but , doing it correct for boosted applications is where your life balences with them . That seems high for a stock rebuild with your parts , why not buy h beam rods to install instead of stockers . It will raise their price 0 dollars to put in this rod or that rod so do it right now or right later is up to you .

The only red flag I saw was the chip they are including in your work . From a non-syty shop make sure you know whats on that chip before you drive on it.

That's the point,we here have never heard of them doing one right.Sure it sounds like a simple deal.but I would much rather have a reputable local builder do mine then a company that has crackheads building 25 engines a shift. :2cents:

Oh yeah them inbred volunteers are some nasty mofo's.I hate them too.

Yikes!!!

If you look at one of the first posts he also mentioned all the other things he is getting done for $4K. It is possible for any builder to have a good/bad assembler. There can also be bad days for a good builder. Shit happens.

Since nobody here has said - "Jasper built MY engine and it sucks" - it is all word of mouth. And even with that - nobody has said "Tom had his engine built by Jasper and it sucks". There is no proof that Jasper CAN'T build a SyTy engine - but I haven't heard that they can either.

Terry - thanks for coming out Saturday. I appreciate your help and if you need a hand when you get your truck back I'm available.

True, and that does address his original question, however that isn't the point everyone else is making. Our point is, why take the chance when it isn't neccessary? You can go with a builder that is proven or one that isn't...you even admit that it isn't proven, so again, why take the chance when you can go to McCoy or RPM and get it done right? All for a few bucks, that may end up costing twice as much if it doesn't work out....doesn't make sense. If he doesn't have the money, then he should save up or wait till he does, so he can get it done right the first time. He already said he has 2 other projects going...I personally would rather have 1 well build done correct project rather than 2 others going on and 1 that could be possible chaos.

Re: Jasper engines

I'm not saying I'd take my engine to Jasper :)

I just don't like seeing someone bashed for going against the norm. There are other people who are capable of building an engine. There are others capable of building a transmission. We just need to find them. I'm all for supporting the SyTy vendors we have - but given a budget and having someone close to you speaks volumes.

Re: Jasper engines

My typhoon has a Jasper motor in BUT the person who had it before me put it in. I didn't expect it to last as long as it has, about 14k so far (I have had the tranny out 3 times since then) I know it has hypereutectic pistons, I would be suprised if the main caps are correct.

I work at a GM dealer and would NEVER consider putting a jasper engine or anything Jasper for that matter, in one of my cars. I have seen customers have nothing but problems with them.

Trucks running like a scalded cat. Scarry fast. Did a launch and rear tires spun for first time since I've owned it. I'll have to drop in the new fuel pump at sometime due to no fuel at cold start but other than that just awesome!
