Yeah, my favorite line...

Some nice guy/kid in a silver Jeep Wagoneer (?) 5.9 decides to stomp it when the light goes green. Well, doh, when I hear that - I stomp it too, and about TWO seconds later I pass him and am well on my way to the speed limit and gracefully fly by.

So at the next light I roll the windows down, because he's changed lanes to be next to me, and sure enough he asks...

"Is that STOCK?"

To which I reply...

"Yeah, it'a a quick little truck, huh? I'd show you how I really launch if this were not a corner." referring to the left turn lane we are both in now.

As luck would have it the next light changes red, and I have just a few seconds to lock those brakes and build some boost.

I have to admit I love when the two left tires on my Ty spin while I build boost. Kind of intimidating I think... the light goes green, the tires go screech, the Ty goes GOOD BYE.

Good thing the cop about 1.4 mile ahead of me already has someone pulled over on the other side of the road, or it would be me. Sensing the guy in the Jeep was going to do a "loser fly by" I pull in front on him and hit the brakes to keep him from getting caught as well. At first I could tell he was pissed but then he backed off when he saw the cop and I am sure he knew I did it for his, uh.. our own good.

And now I shall call it a night. Good night all!

LOL, makes me think back a few months ago, when a Jeep tried to smokeme...Of course it was a waste of gas, but I had to do it...This guy was not so nice as at the next light, he rolls down his window and starts telling me to come and find him in a few months and he'll smoke me after he puts his 5.9 in the Jeep :roll: Of course I tell him I smoke 5.9 RTs all the time and he thinks i'm full of sh@#...anyhow, good kill bro...No idea why 5.9 guys think they are fast...without mods, they are nothing.

even with mods they aren't usually shit. i've often wondered what is up with the Jeep/Dodge pickup guys. So many of them have way to high of expectations for those dogs.....

Compared to the Syclone and Typhoon the Grand Cherokee 5.9 is nothing. BUT compared to just about EVERY other SUV they are VERY fast. Until this year they were the 2nd quickest stock SUV ( after the Typhoon ).
I do have to agree with you that there are many Jeep owners that think their trucks are "the shit". And most are probably a piece of shit.
There is a guy in NY running low 12's with a regular cherokee. It's got a 5.9 swapped in and it is a truck he trailers to the track... not an every day driver but one nice truck. ( with alot of time and money dumped into it ). So there are some real fast Jeeps.
The 5.9 Grand Cherokee was only made in 98 in Black,white, and silver. Stock hood louvers, low profile roof rack, "mesh" look behind front grill and just under 15,000 total 5.9s made. It's AWD ( I know I don't have to explain the benefits in this forum ). Stock they do mid 15s and mildly worked they can dip into the 13s.
I can beat MANY cars off the line in my 5.9. I really love it at stop lights where the road merges into one lane just beyond the interesection. It looks like a regular Grand Cherokee and most of them are 6 cyl. so No one expects it to be fast at all.
My Syclone will "blow the doors off" my 5.9. BUT it seems like more people either know what the Syclone is OR they have seen an S10 done up to run low 1/4 mile times. The 5.9 is a nice everyday driver and my Syclone is an AWESOME weekend driver. I think my Jeep is fast but I know it isn't a race truck and I certainly wouldn't think I would beat a Typhoon or Syclone.

ok i currently own a dakota r/t 5.9 (looking to dump it and maybe pick up a typhoon). i can say as an owner they are a beast, i was very unimpressed by the performance. i mean they obviously didnt have any kind of real performance they didnt even have all wheel disc brakes to slow those 4500 pound trucks down. another thing we have this hot shot r/t around and he thinks hes the fastest thing since sliced bread. let me tell you now that i could beat him on my old mountain bike. they are nice trucks and they have lots of potential but sink 20g's into anything and itll put up good time slips. the dakota is really expensive to run too a max guarrantee of 12 miles to the gallon? insurance is pretty high too. when you go through that much fuel the insurance really breaks a guy. i watched a syclone make a fool of the fastest r/t in town and i swear the syclone finished 1/8 of a mile ahead of the r/t. though he wasnt pushing the hp the syclone was you could tell even in his best run would he hope to close the gap a car length or two. my two cents.
