Is my IC working properly? (Video Included)

Installed the aftermarket Shurflo pump and have been experiencing IAT temps as high as 140 degrees while cruising at 70 mph. I noticed there was a screw for adjusting the flow, but was not sure how many gpm the stock setup can handle. Anyways, on with the video.

I don't know what all of that is you posted under your statement but my answer would be no. How did you set yours up? I always liked to use a clear tubing at one point to make sure there isn't any air in the system. Some people laughed but I always could "see" what was going on in there. Even if you went and bought a 2" section and mounted in in the highest area, preferably on the line going IN to the IC I think you would benefit a lot. 140* temps is not where you want to be, especially on the highway doing 70. Now if you have a lot of heat soak and your 70mph drive was only for 2-5 minutes then yeah, maybe normal. High IAT's is why I ditched the W2A. You might get 120-130* temps sitting at a light but the second you start driving you see them go WAY down. Check and double check that the water in there is flowing and flowing well.

Do you still have the factory metal ic lines or have you switched to flexible hose?

Here is a quick sketch of how I set mine up. I turned the screw on top of the pump that adjusts the flow all the way out, and didn't notice any difference by looking in the fill neck of the IC. Yeah, I ran all new 3/4" heater hose. Both the lines feel full to the touch, meaning there is not a lot of splashing or movement, it is really consistent. I'll have to pick up some clear tubing and see what is really going on. Thanks for the tips!

I think that adjuster screw on the shurflow pump is the preset to turn it off like 50 PSI.

If your EGR valve is working than your intake temps may be that high.
Try cruising at 45 MPH.

The pump IS running correct? Kinda hard to tell with the engine noise. If it is, you got some serious air trapped in there... If you just started up the truck after it cooled down, the pump won't come on unless you have it hot wired. It also won't come on until the truck has reached operating temperature if you still have the stock chip.

First off, there are just too many questions not answered to make a good diagnosis on your intercooler system. My first question, after watching the video, what is up with all the FOAM in the coolant? Foamy liquid is NOT a good heat absorber. What type of liquid do you have in the system? Is your pump hotwired? Can you hear the pump run? Can you hear water flow? Is your upper intercooler tank insulated, at least the bottom part? Is your intake sucking in hot air from the engine bay? Is your lower intercooler radiator getting enough air flow? Is any part of the system clogged? What temp thermostat are you running?

Looks like someone peed in it. I was looking for something to pop out of the IC in that Video, kinda scary. I have A really nice polished RPM A2A setup for ya if you can't get this one working correct. Brassymonkey is right, you have to ask yourself all of these questions then find the one that fixes the problem, I would change that coolant first off, second hot wire the pump to confirm it's working. thats my .02

I don't think it makes much of a difference how you actually plumb it but I always like for the pump to push as much as possible if it starts at the bottom. Here is how I usually do mine

One more thing I forgot, are any of the hoses kinked? That is easy to occur in an engine bay.

Re: Is my IC working properly? (Video Included)

My EGR valve is still on the truck and functional, I really need to delete it since i'm not subject to emissions testings here. My adjuster screw is now turned all the way to increase the most flow, visually I couldn't tell it made a difference.

Yes, That is the pump making all the noise in the video not the engine. I have it hotwired. The video was taken while everything was still relativity cold, just started the truck and drove it into the garage.

I'm not really sure what all the foam is about either??? I put a 60(water)/40(coolant) mix in and haven't added anything since. Pump is hotwired, I can hear it run, I can also hear water flow in the lower ic radiator as well. Upper IC is not insulated, it is just as it came from the factory. What would you recommend insulating it with? I'm still running the factory cross over air intake pipe, so I'm guessing I am getting hot air in the intake. I was wondering the same thing about the lower radiator getting enough air at high speeds. It dawned on me that maybe the rubber deal that is just below the lower radiator is flexing at high speeds and not really doing it's job routing air. I ended up making 5 little L brackets to stiffen it up, still not positive effects. I honestly don't know if there is a clog in the system, I'm going to do a full flush today. I'm running the stock thermostat.

Looks like some one peed in it lol, it does doesn't it. What does a nice shiny A2A set up cost? I'm really not seeking to build the truck to the extreme, Just looking to make the stock parts function their absolute best.

I can say with 100% confidence that none of the hoses are kinked.

If you EGR is operating if very could well be seeing 140F IAT's. If it isn't, often the problem with stock A2W systems is either air pockets or kinked rubber hoses (usually down by the lower CCHE)

Also make sure the hoses on the upper ic never go above the liquid level in the reservoir. If this is occurring the liquid will not have enough head to circulate.

For now,,,Just unplug your egr valve & stuff a plug in the vacuum line & see if that makes any difference.
Get back to us afterwards.

fill it from the bottom up,make sure there is no air in there, foam means air,

Re: Is my IC working properly? (Video Included)

Is it possible to have too much fluid in the IC? I went out and let the shurflo run, opened the drain bolt on the lower IC, and a lot of foam came out of the top IC. Now it seems to be actually moving fluid through the lines. It's hard to explain on here, but before everything would just kinda vibrate and you would hear a splash noise every now and again. Now it's more of a consistent fluid movement sound with no vibrating. Hooked up the laptop with datamaster and 111.7 was the highest temp I could manage even beating on it at 8-10psi. My free trial of datamaster expired today, so I'm going to have to figure that out today too.

Also I should make note that it is 45 degrees out today.

There's an overflow port on the cap neck that sends excess fluid to the overflow tank.

Don't you think it is better to suck fluid from the bottom of the intercooler instead of foam from the top?
