Is a turbo housing gasket necessary?

Just got my stock turbo rebuit. And, the rebuilder gave me a gasket that wasn't there when I took the turbo off. This is the gasket btwn the turbine housing and where it bolts to the manifold.

Is this gasket necessary? ....because if so, I wasted my time port matching the housing.

Thanks

I don't believe that gasket is needed. My stock turbo did not have one when it was removed and I don't have one currently.

you could always try to port match the gasket too if there is enough material. it should help seal things better but it may also make absolutly no difference. the gasket was free so it couldnt hurt to try

Yeah...thanks for the replies.

I was thinking the same thing - not needed. The rebuilder also "planned/surfaced" the housing so it perfectly flush.
