Re: Interest in a SE event?
UPDATE
We had a chance to discuss more about putting together at our GA/FL meet this past weekend.
Our goal is to have 40 trucks show. FL, GA, SC, TN, AL being the most prodominant areas. Since Homecoming has taken off, we thought it would be best to plan it later in the year around this time, this way it isnt stacked up with other events. Exact time/date still is up in the air, but for now lets just put it around Sept/Oct.
We'd like to do shirts along with some very small award plaques (or some sort of trophy type thing) and a raffle. This would mean that we need to set up a registration to cover cost. It was decided it wouldnt be any more than $25, which most of that would goto covering shirt cost and food (order pizza, country boil, etc) We can do awards for longest driven, nicest truck, etc.
Racing was brought up and it was best decieded that if we plan to goto a track, you will be responsible for your own entrance / race fee.
Off track from the trucks, after this past meet, I believe its now become tradition now for the GA/FL events to feature pocket bike racing. So expect to see it. Competition gets fierce, especially in the early hours of the morning.
We kicked around quite a few areas to do the meet. Savannah and Orlando came to have the most potential due to both having access to tracks and available activities and attractions outside of the trucks for the family. Hood talked about the pros and cons in the beginning of this thread.
We talked about having the event move around each time to give variety and make it a fair drive for everyone. From that, most everyone at the meet this past weekend agreed we should do Orlando for the first meet. I know in the beginning of this thread we wanted to keep it as central as possible. Of course, Orlando being the first meet isnt set in stone. If doing it in Savannah means we are going to get more trucks and attendance, then we can do that.
So if the intrest is still there, myself and Hood have stepped up to lead in the coordination to putting something together for the first Annual Southeast Shindig. We definately want to hear more feedback on location.
