Intercoolers

I have a Kenny Bell air to air intercooler on order that comes complete with the battery relocation kit and Optima battery. Now someone tells me the Race Proven Motors intercooler is a much better design. Anybody got an opinion on these two intercoolers?

There are a few threads on this out there, but I personally thought I had heard KB pulled Sy/Ty out of their catalogue.

Anyways, RPM Intercooler is pretty simple to install, and lets you keep your stock fan.

No, actually Kenny Bell sent me a SyTy catalog and they still carry many go fast parts for our trucks. When I called Mike at RPM to inquire about my order for a gauge pod, I happened to mention some add ons I was putting on the Ty and if the ultimate chip needed some kind of an upgrade for the mods I was doing. He of course, said his intercooler was much better in design. What I like about Kenny Bell is he has very experienced shop about a mile away do all their installs. I went over and saw the KB shop and talked to mechanic who would install and he impressed me with his knowledge about our vehicles.

I have heard the KB IC core is fine, the piping is crappy. The mechanic may have seemed knowledgable, but KB chip which disables Knock Retard has probably blown up more trucks than any other aftermarket chip. If he is so knowledgable, why doesn't KB fix their chip? My guess is all smoke and mirrors....

I am not using their chip, I have a 10 program Ultimate chip that I got on ebay. The mechanic didn't like their chip either.

I had to reweld the KB core cause it open during a race :fist:
Id go with Mikes A2A cause it has more flow and the piping is a newer/better design

I had a kb intercooler and I agree the pipes are crapy (rusty inside after a year and I live in San Francisco) and I had to have my intercooler welded as well because it cracked on me. I want an RPM or Mccoy A2A

I had KB's A2A for over 10 years with no problems. Of course NOW my truck has all of 11K on it. Last year I switched to RPM's A2A and I do like it better. No real tests on it, but the piping is nicer/neater.

be careful with mike @ RMP. this guy must be really popular and/or has way too many urns in the fire because my order came incomplete and he is impossible to get a hold of for tech support. if you call him 4 times a day for a week you might get him once. this isn't what i was expecting after dropping $600 at his store.

Don't worry too much, I am sure as soon as you get ahold of him he will make it right. I have bought several things from him and he has always done me right, when I had a small problem he straightened it out. Yes he is busy so sometimes you have to leave messages but he has always returned my calls. Larry.

I have called him many times. He may have been out that week who knows.
All the orders I have got have been complete. Hopefully you got it resolved.

i did get it resolved... much later. i don't mean to bash but i think his prices are really high for the chips and i expected a little better service. i was just telling my experience excactly like it happened.

Well if you are refering to RPM, not RMP then I apologize for any problems you may have encountered. As for the chips, I do not make them nor do i set the price. Todd A. and Brian G simply asked me to sell them b/c they are not equipted to do so. The money I make on them vs the amount of time I spend with people who cant follow the instructions and properly install the darn things makes me wonder why i even sell them in the first place. For ~$400 you cant possibly sit here and say the chip is a rip off. 16 different programs, a valet, security feature, the ability for the ecm to see above 14psi, on the fly adjustments, egr dissable, ic pump engagement, etc. I would like for you to tell me one product which does half this for even double the price.

You can always email tech@raceprovenmotors.com and we'll be happy to help you with anything syty related. Each and every email is answered within 12 hrs typically. The tech line often time goes unanswered, b/c we are too busy to assist half the people who call up asking how to fix a problem which was encountered after installing someone elses' products. It is unfortunate but thats why we recommend emailing us if you cant get through by phone.
