Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

I have done a lot of searching, and I have not been able to find a good bolt-on replacement
intake manifold. I have friends that own an engineering firm, they design and build racing parts all day everyday! I spoke with them about doing a proper replacement, no mods needed, and they are interested if their is enough interest.
They design cams, heads, intake manifolds, pistons, rods...etc etc
rapid prototypes
5 axis cnc
cnc lathe
cfd
if you have any questions call 8015182315 Jason
price per part will be around 1000

Integrated Engineering is the company, look them up, they build Audi, Volkswagen, and BMW parts.

Re: Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

I have researched the Mach index of inlet valves, Lovell Mean gas speed for the inlet valves, and figured with some good heads, and cam, and peak torque around 5600 rpm, on a 262ci motor, we need intake runner area of 2.77 sq in.
Doing the numbers we could gain over 50hp by swapping to a properly designed intake manifold!

Re: Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

So GMC Typhoons and Syclones are a specialty of theirs?

No! engines (air pumps) are a specialty of mine and theirs!
Get air in, and get air out builds horsepower, fuel is pressurized and not hard to add or subtract, ignition is not hard either!

You must be new here. It's OK... we were all optimistic about these trucks at one time.

All kidding aside: Yes, the intakes on these suck (PAS showed GM their pre-pre-pre-production intake, GM said "Sweet! Let's go with that!"). Renz has done some intakes, other guys have done some port matching... but at this point, I don't see a demand for a high flow intake on a turbo truck that's 22 years old.... and then ask $1000 for it.

Re: Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

Back on topic!
This will take at least a year.
It will be two cast parts (Holley LS1 intake manifold esque) top and bottom.
Forward facing throttle body (Wilson with Wiggins clamp provision)
TPI
Stock distributor
I would like input for any other provisions that might come in handy (AN radiator fitting) like dual injectors.

That's why I posted, to see if their is any interest, I can tell a lot of the people on here don't get out much! :rotf:
I can't leave anything alone, and I love optimizing my setup, if there is no interest, I'll do a sheet metal intake, I just thought with how many V6 trucks are on the road, we could all benefit, from a proper cast aluminum intake!

Re: Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

Where are you getting this 50hp number from? Is that with aftermarket heads? If so, I think other routes would be better suited to gain 50hp instead of a $1000 intake.
That's after inputing the numbers in a CFD program, that is not including the benefit from the heads! 1.5cfm = 1 hp.

Re: Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

I'm all about spending money on intakes... I have 2 spare superram intakes sitting around for my collection of TPI parts.

If this includes the upper and lower intake, I would possibly be interested... Is it going to be side facing or forward? Is it going to fit all the stock parts and A/C? Stock fuel rail going to mount to it?

Re: Intake manifold for Syclone/Typhoon

The problem I see with this is the differences in the heads that these trucks can use.

There are way too many sets of heads that people use. These are the stock heads, vortecs, brodix, raised runner 388's, pontiac's, ect... all of these seem to fit differently. These heads are expensive as well.

If you are looking at changing the intake to be a front facing intake then they need to dump the air 2 water setup (or modify it extensively) and run an air to air intercooler. This then means hacking the fenderwells to fit the piping, or modifyong the core support to run the pipes. Lots of work. Not a lot of people are looking to do this but as stated above there have been some if these intakes made.

The guys that have bowtie blocks would be the group that you would be looking at, and most of them have already made sure to get and intake that will fit their heads... (look for posts about getting heads to fit intakes there are lots of them)

These will be tough to sell to more than ten, but one way to maybe get this rolling is to make it with the ability to run vortec and stock heads. After looking at the web page for integrated they may be able to engineer something that would work on both sets so you would have a wider range of people to sell it to... But im not an engineer...
