inner fenders, are they needed?

I hate rust
So... I'm about to replace both front fenders due to them being so far gone in rust they dont even hold the cladding anymore and I'm wondering if I should keep the inner fenders? It's been a few years since I've replaced the fenders on the s10 body and I recall everything bolts up to the fender and the inner fender is there to mainly keep road junk, water, dirt, etc from getting up on the engine and such. I've seen a few pictures around here of people running without the inner fenders and I'm wondering if there are any benefits to it? Is it not recommended? Atm the ones on my typhoon seem to have not been infected with rust yet but I still want to take them off and give them a quick spray since I'll already have the fender off anyway.

Just curious what everyone thinks on the subject. Thanks.

I reccomend keeping them. Clean them up. But put them back.

My car does not have them.. Any time I go over some new asphalt or a road repair its like abrasive grit blasting all my inner fenders not the skins. (I also run super gummy tires with a 180 tw on both vehicles everything gets picked up) Eventually the road debris may blast away the paint and cause further rust.

I don't know who runs them with out might just be for show?

You can try it out with out. It might let the engine bay air cool better.

You severely restrict when you can drive the truck without them. If you get caught in a rain shower or go over some unexpected terrain, your engine bay will be filthy.

Clean them up and put them back on. :2cents:

I haven't had mine on in years. It does make a mess (rain, rubber from the track) but it also make working on my truck that much easier.

Haven't ran fender wells for probably 7-8+ years now. Ive driven it to multiple national events across the states, all around FL, and in all weather. I autoX on a regular basis. My junk looks fine. But I also open my hood on a regular basis and clean/polish/wipe down the engine bay too.

Not only does it reduce temps, it makes working on everything that much easier.

How do you run your wiring without them in? Through the fender?

Adam has those new wireless headlights. POW (power over wireless) equipped battery in the bed and just sync the headlights and anything else that needs power. Easy setup and no wires. Pretty cool stuff.
