Importing my typhoon back inot Canada

Hey Guys,

I have only just found this forum, I have a 93 Typhoon, down here in New Zealand that I have owned for a few years, and am shifting back to Canada shortly and want to bring it with me, I have gone through the RIV website and read through it all, got to the part where it said I needed a letter of compliance from GMC and thats where I hit a brick wall... Lady I spoke to said "No Typhoon's ever meet CMVSS standards" and that I couldn't import it to Canada, I told her I had seen them driving around and she said she didn't know how that could happen, can someone give me a heads up on how to get the old girl back in, she's done 53k miles and I don't want to leave her behind, (unlike some other females that are tagging along for the trip!)

Welcome to the board. Personally, I'd just import it to the US and then drive it across the border  ... good luck getting it in, we've got a bunch of canadians who'll chime in I'm sure

Ya contact TurboTony or CAMSTY on this board, they have a fair bit of info on how to get a Typhoon into Canada. One question, did you originally import it into Canada when you were last here? If so, it may be easier to bring it back into Canada than if it was the first time importing it.

Oh and where abouts are you coming back to? There's a number of us on the western side of Canada that get together every year for a Canadian SyTy Nationals in Edmonton.

Hi,

No truck is ex US and then imported to NZ, I have imported cars into Canada before so have a rough idea of how to go about it but have it the brick wall with the compliance issue.

I will try PM both those guys and see how we get on.

I will be moving back to Tswassen, Delta B.C so no to far away from you in abbortsford!

Cheers

Hey James, I think you mean the G.M recall clearance letter, call Frank Agueci with G.M Vintage Vehicles at 905-644-5843 and he'll send you the recall clearance letter.

There you go, I knew Cam or Tony had a guy that knows exactly what needs to be done to clear through customs.

And for sure, hit me up when you get back. I've met a couple other local SyTy'ers and I'm always up to meet up with a fellow SyTy enthusiast.

Hi James

Where are you in NZ? I'm based in Auckland and posted on here last year asking about the possibility of importing a Syclone or Typhoon into NZ.

I was in Saudi '92-93 and drove several examples of these cars including a very nice white Typhoon that went like a rocket!

Have you considered selling your Typhoon here in NZ?
How long have you owned it and do you know when it was imported?
