I know this has been asked before but I need to bring this up again because it’s not well defined in the last post!

CAN IT BE DONE?? AND HOW?

I don't understand from reading the last post about this why it can't be done.

Can somebody who has imported one in the last six months please step up and fill us Canadians in on how it’s done.

Thanks for the reply, I have read that a few times. Did you drive your over the boarder or trailer it? What needs to be done to Typhoons to get them to pass safty in Canada?

After the vehicle is imported you have 45 days to complete the following:

Federal Inspection:
-daytime running lights
-GM Canada recall clearance letter
-PAS sticker in door jam has to be there, no exceptions
-RIV form 2(mailed to you by RIV after form 1 is completed at the border)
-RIV will send a list of federal insp. centres

Out of Province Saftey Inspection:
-request for out of provice inspection from motor vehicles branch (you have to give them your completed federal inspection form to get this)

It's late, hope i got everything.

One more thing, expect to wait a LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGGGG time for that RIV Inspection Form 2? Its the one that RIV will send you after you've brought the truck across the border.

I had my Prov. Inspection done on my Sy and already had it insured for close to a month before I received the letter from RIV saying I needed another inspection. I think I got it about 40 days after I brought the truck across, I was kinda pissed at first thinking I only had like 5 days to get that inspection done. Luckily they calculated the 45 days from some other date, perhaps the date they sent the letter out, I cant remember, I ended up having another 2 weeks or so to get it done.

I then had to get a letter from some private company that says there were no recalls (I think it cost me $25) and then I had to bring that in (after doing the DRL's) and then it took a grand total of about 10 min. for some monkey at Crappy Tire to say "Uh ok, yep looks like a truck, oh and yep the VIn matches the paperwork, duh OK, I'll sign paper"

Once he signed that and faxed it over to RIV, I was done. I then disconnected the DRL's and have been happy ever since.

trying to import my typhoon into canada

trying to import my typhoon into canada

If any body has been successfui at importing a typhoon into canada please let me know how to do it. The RIV has told me that all typhoons are inadmissable and won't send my the form 2 required to have it federally inspected. Apparently Transport canada can override this if I can provide a letter from GM stating that the Phoon met US Transportation Safety Standards when it was sold and can be altered to met Canadian safety standards ie (running lights). It sounds simple but no one at GM has beem able to help. Please if anybody has information on this please let me know email: canuckphoon@hotmail.com thanks, its no fun looking at the Phoon in my garage!

We have to sort this out, nobody wants to drive all the way down to the U.S and get the truck back to Canada and find out they are stuck having to figure out what to do or sell it back in the U.S. Please if anybody has had luck getting it back into Canada, let us all know the details of how you did or your contact at the RIV.

I called RIV and told them I was importing a 1993 GMC Typhoon, he checked his list of admissable vehicles and said it was on it. I can't remember his name though.

Otherwise I already covered pretty much everything in my other posts.

This is doesn't make sense, it's on the list or it's not, and it has to be otherwise i wouldn't have been able to import mine.

Call back and ask to speak with the manager, explain to him that you know others who have imported them a few months ago, therefore they have to be on the list.

Let me know what happens, i'll call for you if i have to.

Also ask if anythings changed in the past few months, maybe there not on the list anymore for some reason?
