Im on a roll..two down...Carrera 4s

So, after not being able to buy a decent race for a long time, I had the pleasure ot schooling my second vehicle in two days...a 996/911 carrera 4s...coming home yesterday. I just hope that T-Bone doesnt have one of these too, so he wont come over and start arguing about this one also LOL
Anyway, not too much to tell on this one. Im two cars behind him at a light in the right lane, light turns, and he goes at a good pace (obviously not full throttle or anything though.) So I weave around the car in front of me and pull up beside him doing about 45. He proceeds to look over, smirk at the audacity of this s15 trying to mess with him, and he takes off. I was still holding 2nd gear manually, so I give it full throttle and bump it up to D and proceed to walk by him. Unfortunately, we had to let out of it before I got more than a car on him for the red light ahead :p The look on this guys face was priceless...like he had seen a UFO or something. I figured this might be pretty quick out of the hole, since he has AWD also, so I start building boost. LIght turns, and he hesitates for a second then takes off. I left about about 5 psi and proceeded to pull about 3 cars on him in 1st and second, then he lets off. So I slow down, and he comes by at the speed limit and looks over meekly, giving me a big thumbs-up. I was actually surprised to see that from a Porsche driver, but none-the-less, it was cool of him.
Ahh, I love my truck (when it runs LOL.)
BTW, I run around at 22-23 PSI with the alky on all the time, and I bump it up to 25 PSI if I think I need it. I dont believe in much mercy.

Funny thing is I owned two of them at one time about two years ago and that is how Jimmy and I met originally when he tried to get away from me on a local 4 lane but traffic was thick so it was only a short burst and he later tracked me down at my house. I had a 911 Carrera (not the C2S or C4S version though) and a 911 Turbo. Carrera's are designed for top speed and handling and thus do not launch well out of the hole due to inadequate pressure plates. The turbo's are a different story and much fun but very expensive to maintain. Still, with the pressure you are running, it wouldn't take much to convince me if you raced and even beat a turbo from a dig. The 996 twin turbo rocks and they turn out a 3.7 0-60 but you don't come across them everyday and normally the older guys that drive them don't run them....they are more of a status symbol. You'll probably faint when I type this BUT congrats on a nice kill!! Nothing like beating up on a cream of the crop european work of art.

Ironically, Im seriously out looking for this particular 911 turbo running around here. Its a black 911/993 Turbo S (the last and best of the aircooled 911's)...yes, a real one...and Im seriously wanting to get a hold of him. He jumped on my supra one day when the roads were wet, so of course I had no chance but to sit and spin tires while he kicks my ass with AWD. I dont know if Ill ever see it again, but I seriously hope I catch it out in the truck. He would most likely smoke me from a high-speed roll, but Im not afraid of him in a standing-stop 1/8th, or probably 1/4 for that matter.
What makes it especially irritating is that its absolutely my favorite Porsche ever sold in the US (the carrera GT doesnt count...its too insane.) My favorite year, model and color even. I just cant warm up to the 996 and 997, although I do like the 997 a lot more than the 996. Ive thought about selling all the vehicles and buying a regular 993 TT (the turbo S is still to expensive,) but I just cant bring myself to do it. I like having things Im not afraid to break.

Nice kill, how do you get away with running that much boost? What fuel are you running? Have you datalogged...any knock? I had the pleasure of humbling a 996 driver myself a couple of years ago. We were dicing it up on Central expressway and he took the offramp for San Tomas. He tried losing me in the corner, with no luck. At the stop sign, he went for the monster turbo launch and I did the same (right behind him). Caught him by 65mph or so and walked on by, then shut it down. That was a memorable race, for sure. Cool cars, you see tons of exotics around here. I went to Fry's Electronics last weekend and there was a black C6 Z06 in the parking lot as well as a new V10 M5. Next time I want a street race, I think I'll just cruise around Fry's looking for action

I dont know about LS, but I'm at 25psi all the time. Alky on #6 or 7 (SMC kit) I get knock every once in a while, only when I stab the gas really really fast though and on pump gas.

I can run 26 psi on 93 octane and pure alky. I found out that I was able to avoid knock more by setting the initial alky level up and lowering the slope a little (right around 12 o'clock on the slope knob.)
It has been datalogged. I was getting spikes up to about 6 deg, but that was tuned out so that its 1-2 degrees normally. A lot of time went into drive tuning my truck with a very competent tuner. I dont think its going to get much better than what its at now.

A year and a half ago I raced my brother's '03 911 Turbo. The thread I am sure is still in here somewhere.

Back when I used to have my STi I did race a Carrera from stoplight to stoplight. He was an older fellow. He gave me the thumbs up when we went separate ways. It is my experience, if you are messing with a Porsche owner, more than likely they will play. All so far have been pretty cool.

What did your STI run in the 1/4? Was is stock? I just bought a new 06 STI as a daily driver. Im going to keep it mostly stock, but I imagine ill do intake, exhaust and a boost controller. The car is definately fun to drive.

My '05 Aspen White STi was stock. The best it ran was a 13.16 @ 104. The car was a very consistent 13.2's-13.3's car. During the summer when the temperatures and humidity was higher, it ran 13.3's and 13.4's. It was a cool bracket racing car. Good luck with yours.
