IGNITION MODULE pissing me off!!

So I went on my long awaited trip last weekend and spent about $1000 getting the TY ready for it. We went all over Colorado up and down Mountains, well over 100 down highways, rain, shine, night, day, you get the point. So we get back, drop off our stuff at home and we go to pick up my daughter and less htan a block from the house the truck dies. This has happend to me once before when I had been driving all day on a hot day. I changed the IGN Module and it was fine. Ofcourse that was about an hour later. Anyway, I have no Tach flutter when this happens. It seems like the truck gets no gas or spark. It gets good FP though just wont start up or it will then die right away. So we towed it up the street and later on last night it fired right up and I even drove it for a while today and it never skipped a beat. Im pretty sure its the IGN MOD being a whore and am wondering a) what causes this( module is very new and so was the last one) b) would an aftermarket one do me any justice? c) whats the best thing to do to keep this from happening? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Heat kills the module, I think there are kits to relocate the module outside the dist.
Goodluck!!

If you didn't throughly clean where the module sits as well as the bottom of the module itself before using the heat sink grease, you WILL have problems. That is how the module dissipates heat and keeps it from getting too hot.

Re: IGNITION MODULE pissing me off!!

I use the heatsink compound for CPUs.
You can find it at CompUSA or even Best Buy.

It has silver mixed in with it to improve conductivity so you are not supposed to get it on your skin.

not trying to be a jack ass, but i would replace the relay of the feulpump also, they are cheap, and bad relays can do some pretty weird things

From what Ive seen, this does not exist. Not for our set up anyway. As for a high end module, Ill probably look into that.

UH it still needs the module to communicate with the ECM even when using the eDist and LS1 setup.

Jim Sloan has a page with the pictures and information on it. I can't find the post with the link to the setup.
