put the ur6s back in and steadily raise the FP.

that second wideband would probably be best for you

Re: idle missfire??

I raised the fp and will see how that works. with vac off it was set at 36 and idled at 32. I turned it up to 40 and it still idled at 32??Also on a hunch I checked timming. It was adv. by a few deg. I set it back. For the hell of it I retarded it a deg. or two. my set of ur6's had a fouled plug so I will replace them on monday.

Should I replace my KR sensor of just retorque it?? DO they go bad. it is 15 years old with 94k on the motor. I rather use that 50$ somewhere else.

Does the wideband o2 replace the stock sensor or do I have to add another sensor to the DP. The 2nd one looks good to be. Probably all I will need .

Re: idle missfire??

Not sure if I have this wrong here, but kr can also be amended by the fueling tables in your chip no? I would leave the pressure alone as that was causing you problems before and see about adjusting your chip tables. I am just guessing based on other threads I read.

I am about to install my own AFPR so will be interested in the replies.

Also, any chance of making this thread a sticky? There is a lot of good advice and info in here!

Cheers,

M

also try diff spark plug gap if you run out of ideas . My truck ran noticably different when I unknowingly had the wrong gap .

Re: idle missfire??

This thread did get big. sorry guys. right now I am running .034 gap on the ur6's and 5's. would a larger or smaller gap reduce KR.

I have talked to Phil about a smog program for my chip. I might have him ritchen up the upper end of the programs too. I am not 100% sure on how his chip settings work. I know that the higher I go in the + settings the less KR I get. Does that ritchen up the tables?? Its all a matter of tuning and at least its driveable as long as I turn down the boost to 12lbs I get only 1-2* of KR that way.

One of the best things I did was tighten the plug gap down to .030 and I using NGK UR6IX part #7348. The reason for tightening the plug gap was at higher boost it will blow out the spark.

Re: idle missfire??

OMG!! with the ur5's still in and 91 in the tank I went out tonight. It was a cool night. engine temp was around 167 and IA temps in the 75-90 range. I turned the fp up to 40psi and had 2* of retard with the tan wire unpluged. I set my boost to 16.5 and did a few WOT runs. I was amazed at how it ran. I had a spike of 3* or kr then it dropped to 0.5 and spiked to 2* at shifts. The best it ever ran. After 1 hour of messing around and going into boost 10 times with 1 6lb boost launch it had no sign of a miss. Nice :) At the end of the runs my IA temps were over 110*. I guess thats where alky would help.

told you! put those ur6s in and then do some more runs, then you can think about getting alky or one of wallers modified ATR Black upper intercooler

Re: idle missfire??

After a long run today a slight miss came back. Its very light and pops only once every 5 seconds or so. Is this normal for our trucks or do I still have a problem. Also the truck did not feel as fast but the air is humid today. Should I drop the FP back down and see or should I change my plugs first?? Its at 40psi right now. Also have the Phil set on 6. Any help please.

With all the misfireing before I wonder how the old plugs look. I have not had time to change them yet.

a slight miss is normal, change your plugs back to the ur6s and do some DM runs

Re: idle missfire??

An occasional miss is normal. At least in my truck. I'm wondering what you mean by "pop." Can you define that a little better? Nice to hear that you've got this thing running smooth again. My truck misses at idle all the time but smoothes out as soon as I come off idle even a slight amount. I'm assuming a small vac leak somewhere but been to busy to look lately.

Re: idle missfire??

The best I can describe it is a puff of air. The engine is idle is smoth. Then every so often there is a miss.( once every 5-10 seconds) Its light but if I hold my hand over the exhaust I can hear and feel the exhaust get harder for a split second. Its not to bad. It like I get a random miss every once in a while. it feels fine otherwise. I could just be the old plugs. I will try the ur6's first. What should I gap them at to work best on my truck.

Re: idle missfire??

I agree, start there (.32). I'm at .28 w/alky and that seems ok. Will be pulling plugs next week to see how things look. If you want see if you can post a pic of a good example plug or plugs.

Re: idle missfire??

Ur6's went in and gap @ .32. Took a long drive in the heat and guess what Missing is back and just as bad as before. WTF!. Ok I went to drop the FP down and it took a lot to drop it 2 lbs. When its cold it changes FP real fast. I had to turn the screws almost 2 full turns to get it to drop 2 lbs. Last time when it was cold 1/2 turn dropped it 2 lbs. But when I turn down the fp the KR goes up bad. When my WBo2 comes in would that tell me whats going on with my fuel. It is a fuel issue, I found that out at least.

Re: idle missfire??

Well The misfire is back!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Went out last night and messed around. Sy felt good. Strong and It ate some rice.LOL and a 2005gto and a few stangs. Today it was running goos then my kenwood radio took a dump and my guages went crazy. I pulled over and pulled the radio fuse and my guages went back to normal than a few min later the mising was back. It blows a lot of moisture and light brown stuff out the exhaust but it does not smell like gas. The wbo2 will still go crazy once in a while but it was holding steady while it was missfiring. I think I have a bad ground for my wbo2 and guages/radio but that should not cause a missfire because all vital grounds are on the engine? correct?? this is like a hit and miss problem. Somedays it runs like a bat out of hell. and somedays it runs like shit.

Re: idle missfire??

  SORRY GUYS..... ONE LAST TIME BEFORE IT GOES ON E-BAY. THE MISSFIRE IS DRIVING ME NUTS. I LOVE MY TRUCK BUT ITS NOT WORTH IT ANYMORE. AFTER 2500$ AND DAYS OF HEADACHS ITS NO BETTER THEN IT WAS 3 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. IT RUNS GREAT WHEN COLD. SOMETIMED THE WBO2 GUAGE JUMPS AROUND FROM LEAN TO RICH. SOMETIMES ITS STEADY. IT WILL MISS AT IDLE EVEN WITH THE WBO2 STEADY AT 13-14???? I PULLED THE 2,4,6 PLUGS AND THEY LOOK GOOD. i HAVE YET TO PULL THE OTHER SIDE. I GET RANDOM PLUGS TURNING A DRY BLACK. HAS BEEN EITHER PLUG 1,2,4. SOMETIMES ALL THREE. SOMETIMES ONE AT A TIME. I HAVE GONE THROUGH 8 SETS OF PLUGS ON 200 MILES. I GIVE UP. WHEN I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK THERE WAS A GN I WAS LOOKING AT WITH ONLY 8K MILES BUT IT WAS 4K MORE. I SHOULD HAVE DISHED OUT THE EXTRA CASH. I AM GLAD I BOUGHT THE TRUCK BECAUSE I GOT TO MEET ALL YOU AND YOU HAVE BEEN SO HELPFULL. I WILL TAKE MY TRUCK TO TOMS IN HOPE THAT SOMEONE THERE CAN LOOK AT IT AND HELP. IF NOT MONDAY IT GOES ON E-BAY.

Re: idle missfire??

I have been following this thread with interest in the hopes you would get it fixed. I still hope you do. After all the work it would be a shame to give up now but I know what you mean.

I think you are probably almost there, like a fruit machine that pays out when the guy who has been sitting at it runs out of coins - the next guy comes and fixes it right away.

Hope you get it worked out ok.

Good luck.
