IAC valve

OK so I need to change out my IAC valve and needs to know what the best way to change this thing out is. I removed the intercooler and moved all the hoses and wires out of the way but still can't even get a socket on it due to the thickness of the socket. I tried grinding the socket a bit but didn't quite get it enough. Am I going to have to pull the tb off to get this done?

Re: IAC valve

Well if youve got it torn that far down already pull the 4 bolts on the TB and it will be way easier to access. I did mine without removing hardly anything and using a socket and a few extensions and a wiggle joint.

Re: IAC valve

If you are going to change out iac valve, you should also clean out the iac passages in the throttle body. You will need new lower throttle body gasket and throttle body to intake gasket (You can reuse that gasket if it's been recently replaced).

Re: IAC valve

ok this is what i was thinking may have been the best thing to do. As this is my daily driver, I had to put it back together and will be driving it for the next couple of days until I can get the gaskets and the time to tear off the tb. thanks for the advice. Also note that I dont believe the tb has ever been removed. I have some gasket material in my shop but really hate to make a new one. Can these gaskets be bought at a regular parts store?

"GP Sorensen #96-3008 from Autozone for $6 includes throttle body gasket too. Not pictured because it is on my truck."

Re: IAC valve

Sweet, I spent about 30 min of my precious life dealing with 2 idiots that had no earthly idea what I wanted and kept looking thru catalogs. I knew they wouldn't find when they said, " what's a typhoon?"

The gasket kit doesn't show up under any PAS trucks in their system, they need to search under same years for Camaro/Corvette TPI

Re: IAC valve

Thanks guys. I knew that and I tried corvette search but when I saw a pic of the gasket as compared to the OE diagram pic of the syty gasket they just looked different.

Re: IAC valve

89-91 corvette or a 89-92 F-Body share a similar throttle body to SyTy's. I would order gaskets for either of those.
