i need help bad engine problems!

ugggh im new to the site just bought my phoon on the 13th kinda my lucky number :roll: so maybe you guys can help me...

i just re did all vacume lines on my typhoon which has 61000 on it , i just bought this from the dealer . the vacume lines were hooked up all wrong , so it was only running like 5 lbs. fixed vacumes and everything and was runnin good at like 12 lbs. then fixed the waste gate and my egr problems and now ever since i got new plugs my i think map sensor keeps messin with me

its symptoms are pedal to the floor to start it. lag in between rpms like it takes 10 sconds for the car to get to the next thousand rpm. black smoke out the exausht pipe when it revs up. i bought 2 diffrent map sensors to day each of which the gauge on the dash for turbo spiked up to 10 before starting key position and then the car wouldnt start. i put the old one back in it starts but runs like crap. i bought a standard p.n as5 and then a wells su-129 ands both have not worked. any ideas please help i bought my typhoon for 10 grand and put another 4 in to it so far and ive had it for a week, help would be greatly appreciated along with comments . thanks guys GMC= LIFE ! =]

What have you spent 4k on? As far as the MAP goes, do NOT but one at a parts store, you will NOT get the right one, you have to go to GM. The part # is on sytyarchives. Are you throwing a code? What plugs did you put in? Are you 100% sure you put the wires back corrcvtly? If you replaced the wires, which ones did you get? Black smoke and running the way you say off the top of myhead kinda screams ECm but could very well be a bad ECM ground. Youre going to want to check those while youre in there. One is on the back of the driver side cylinder ehad and the other I believe is on one of the intake manifold bolt stude. I changed mine to better places years ago and forgot the exact locations. Depending on what you wnat otu of your truck, I would go get you Datamster and plug it in and see what is going on. If youre not "into" it, just take to a fellow SYTYer, they ll get it going for ya. Where are you located btw?

ok first take every wells/standard/cardone part off. then replace the map sensor with a GM 2 bar correct one. check your fuel pressure. replace the plugs/wires/cap. you need a scan tool

hey guys to answer your questions i spend money on 50 bux of vacume lines a 500 dollar 7 inch screen, bbs wheels, sony xplod 2 1000 watt subs, bosh platnium plugs and wired 8mm high heat., the sensors, and other sh!t i can really remeber right now. i have a real gut feeling about the map but its guna suck that the dealer is guna be open monday and they are closed this whole weekend, and i have bumper to bumper warrenty but you know what that means, waiting for my car, wont come back the right way, blah blah blah , thats why i have spent the money and just done everything myself, what do you guys think, get correct map and data master? i have no check engine light coming on with old map but new one spits out check engine automaticcaly. man im so stressted because of this i just want to enjoy this truck = /

LOSE the bosch platnums, and make sure you gap the new one right, NGK's are the most common.

What plug wires do you have? Make sure # 1 and #6 are STRAIGHT BOOTS or you will have this problem as well. If youre not getting a CEL, I doubt its your MAP. But yes, get Datamaster.

i have bosch premium 8mm wires not sure bout the boots but they were professionally installed. the other ones had boots burned and ran great for sum reason with 12 lbs of boost, i tried disconnectiong the map sensor while starting it and it ran with no map , but no boost guage working and crappy idle, can you guys tell me who i can talk to bout fixin this problem? or if u can post the gm number for the 2 bar map, i wana go try the gm dealer tomorrow, will you think theyll have this in stock? thanks - cheeze

Theres those. Check your boots, it doesnt cost you anything and takes literally 5 seconds. Like I had said in my last post, DENNY and ANGEL are in your area if you need help. I dont know know them or what their take is on helping out but most SYTY guys are out to help others, cant hurt to PM them. Watch what you buy too, you can blow $75 on a MAP sensor and it not be the problem, get Datamaster.

thanks man yea im going to gm tomorrow for the map after i return the other 2 if ne thing ill rettun it and bring back to dealer and demand a rental till they fix my car, its rediculus my car has a crap inspection on it for safety because the dealer jus wanted 2 pass it, i dono what im guna do but i have 30 day warrantee n i love this phoon =/

should have spent the 7" screen and sub-woofer money on a tune up and a scan tool !!! I couldnt resist !! Also, I would not let the dealership touch your truck, you need to do all of your own work because no one knows anything about them (not even dealerships). I hope that you did research before buying this truck, they require allot of maintenance and shit always seems to go wrong with them. But when they run right, it makes it all worth while.

ys tried a new gm map sensor wont start dealer gave me probvlems and has to have it in their service shop or im out money so whatever , im proud to tell u guys im now also a proud owner of a 1992 gmc typhoon number 0021 =] black on black love em now so i now have 2 of em , my god =D

Dude, you need to learn to work on your truck by yourself or youll never make it. Youll have those trucks sold within a year. Dealer is screwing you and always will.

I agree 100% Had a Dealer work on my Ty once, and they made my problems worse. They put in some geeked out platinum Plugs, and would NOT install the ngk's like i requested. They had to stick to their policy, so he says. I think the reason they didn't intall the ur5's is because of the profit margin. Then, get this,.. I looked at my truck the very next morning, and one of their so called mechanics scuffed up one of my aluminum rims on a curb!!! And burned out one of my silver stars!! He probably had a hey day test driving my baby. Actually, i cant blame the headlight thing on the mechanics..But still, it was a rather weird coincidence. He probably got pissed off, and smacked the headlight with his fist when he was doing the spark plug change. LOL!! Oh well, life goes on. I have decided to work on it myself, and iam an experienced mechanic and owned plenty of muscle cars, but in the turbo field iam still inexperienced, but catching on quick. I have figured out lots of minor problems by using this forum. I dont post alot, I mostly read each and everyday. The only reason i let em touch it, is because i got an extended warranty, in case the trans/motor grenaded or whatever. Live and Learn.. For now on, ill do all my homework right here, ask a few questions, and take care of things on my own. Its been the story of my life, and i always seem to succeed with a little effort. Not worth all the extra trouble. Im lucky that i found such a kickass forum. There are some very experienced Pro's out here. And i wish i could meet each and every one of you and shake your hands!! i noe theyre screwin me but if they cant fix it in warranty, i get my money back and buy less of a headace, and i get reimbursed for everything, trust me if it comes back messed up, im dumpin the motor of oil and running it, then puttin oil back in lol, give me a new motor :-D

And yould get a regular 4.3 motor back and your truck would still run like shit except there would be no "fix" for it besides pulling the motor out and rebuilding it correctly.
