Hydroboost install

Finished up the mounting/filler plate. Brush finished the plate, smoothed down the heads on the mounting studs then powdercoated the plate & studs clear.

And here is what the master cylinder internal lineup looks like in case you'd like to take yours apart to rebuild it or clean it.
To re-assemble it I used a .002 flat feeler gauge to get the lip seals to slide back into the bore.

BTW, for anyone that wants to remove the stock mounting plate that comes on the hydroboost unit, use a propane torch on the nut for awhile. The nut has a serrated back on it, so it is a PITA to take off without heating it up.

Now I need to order fittings & hose.

Looks great.
Let us know when it's all done & post your findings w/this setup, as some people never heard of this & it is really the best way to go if you want your brakes to hold for boost launching.

Re: Hydroboost install

OK, I was at a u-pull-it yard over the weekend checking out the hydroboost setups on the astro vans. It looks like everyone is bolting up the stock reservoir and cylinder to the hydro-boost unit? Is this correct? The Astro van reservoirs were at quite an angle and would not work in our application.

Also, all of the astro's had a gay power steering pump with a remote tank for the fluid. Both the pump and the hydroboost unit had lines going up to the tank. I'm really hoping that this remote tank is not needed and that the hydroboost fitting that normally goes to the tank can just be plugged. Anyone know? I looked at MRKING's drawing and couldn't figure out exactly what he had done.

If someone can verify that I can use the stock pump and just plug the fitting that normall goes to the tank and that I can bolt the stock reservoir and cylinder to the astro van hydroboost I'll go back and grab a unit.

Thanks,
-Matt

Re: Hydroboost install

i'm getting things together to do the hydroboost setup and have a few questions.

some people have commented on how touchy the brake peddle is after the install. i really don't want that. is there anything that can be done so that the peddle will be less touchy? BTW, the unit i have came from a astro van and has the master cyl included (it's one of fivetodrive's units).

4C FED, what are you using to lengthen/shorten the brake rod, in this pic?

Looks like coupler nuts to me. Available at any decent hardware store.

Re: Hydroboost install

Yep, coupler nuts.
The only other thing I noticed is that the hole diameter on the end of the rob is still a little large.
It will need a small plastic bushing inserted to keep it from rattling.

cut the rod to length....buy a steel spacer from lowes and slide over both ends and weld.
worked excellent for my setup.

Re: Hydroboost install

I just threaded mine today. Now I just hope that I can find a 3/8-24 threaded coupler:

I cut my stock one and am using that end as the hole in the hydroboost one is larger...

Re: Hydroboost install

Apparently I should have found a 3/8-16 die instead of 3/8-24. Nobody stocks 3/8-24 coupling nuts so I had to order some.. Won't be here till Friday or Monday.
