Well, I just got off the phone with Hunter. Told me he went to the track Sunday. He "forgot" to tell me he was going! Damn it :x Had Datamaster and tools.
Truck has stock block with eagle rods, trw pistons, total seal rings, stock crank. ported L35 heads. T72 turbo, 72 or 75 lbs injectors(he's not for sure, it's been a few years since it has run) Connley magnum chip with Apexi super AFC. Running one of two Walbro pumps for these runs. Also F/M air to air. Can't think of anything else off hand.
First run was a 16 something. Running like it was the previous weekend. Popping and spitting all the way down the track. Brings it back in and remembers the instruction paperwork to do the Peak and Hold Injector Mod. Pulls the computer out and changes some of the wiring around per instructions. Starts truck and notices it runs a heck of alot better :D Goes back to the line and builds boost again(not sure what the psi was though) Truck pulls hard all the way through the lights with 20 lbs boost. Datamaster shows consistent O2 of around 920 through the whole run. Gets back to the pits and found out he ran a 12.06 at 116mph! This was running in overdrive instead of drive. Goes back to the line. This time tranny is in drive. Rips down the track and clicks off a 11.99 at 114mph. Seems to be hitting a rev limiter or something. Falls off at the end of the run at around 6000 rpm. Connely chip perhaps??
If he can get the 60ft down he could improve alot. Both runs were 1.99 and 1.95.
Just passing this information on for him since he doesn't have email/internet access currently.

Suweet! How does he have the Apexi AFC set up? I'm interested to hear more about how he's tuning with it and what luck he's having.

I was thinking about this awhile back, but never fiddled around with it.

I was walking up to watch Hunter's first run (16.67) and after that I heard some guys saying they could beat that time with their mini van... I step in and tell him that Hunter's ty has some serious tuning issues right now and he laughs and says "that other ty aint runnin worth shit either!" Well, that other one was mine, we end up bsing for a couple of hours he ends up being a pretty cool guy. Apparently he has a 87 gn, he wanted a ty but it turns out he got a child instead...poor guy. It was nice to see a ty actually running strong though...congrats goes out to Hunter.

Hey Tyler,
Im not sure of the parameters that he has set in the AFC. He will hopefully get access to and register here to answer questions about it. I've watched him mess with it but did not pay too much attention to it. I might have to start learning. Cheaper than DFI for sure and seems to be working for him :D

Hi Everybody.
A lot of you may not remember me but I was on the Sy/Ty mailing list for years but over the past 3 years my truck has just been sitting, waiting for me to finish it. Well I finally got it done. My fuel management is just plain scarry, I'll admit it. It consists of 70 LB injectors (from Harry at PTE) a stock computer with Accell P&H drivers, a Conely Magnum chip, and an Apexi SAFC. From my previous chip burning days I cut up, lost, destroyed, and ran over my other PROMs so this Magnum chip is all I have left.
The first full pass on the motor (the motor does not have 5 miles on it so this is the break-in period) :D was a 12.0 at 116.3. The turbo is a PT-72 but with the huge .96 A/R exhaust housing it leaves the line with 0 boost, not helping my 1.96 60 ft times. I'll be dropping back to a .81 A/R. Since the SAFC fools the ECU map sensor input to correct the fuel, the boost numbers on Datamaster are very incorrect. It was reading around 38 lbs of boost, I wish. It was about 20.
The second pass was an 11.99 at 114. The first pass was in OD, I tried drive on this pass but this chip must have a rev limiter or somthing so I got out of it before the finish line. I think it was about 6000 rpm. O2 mv stayed around 980 so I'm staying pretty safe I think. RPM never dropped below 5400 the whole run....wondering if the converter ever locked up?

I need to make a custom, very custom chip to make this AFC work better. It will never work as well as a REAL fuel computer though.

Questions, comments? Let me know! BG, what am I doing? :)

So are you still on that race team? They let you away enough to play on the typhoon finally eh?

Hit me up on AIM or ICQ and we can catch up...

S-AFC

S-AFC

This may be the strangest crossover question you've had in a while:

I have a Lotus Elan M100 that I am in the process of trying to get an Apex'I V-AFC (same basic unit as the S-AFC) to work with. What the heck am I posting here for? Well, the Lotus has quite a few GM parts. One of which is likely the only part our vehicles share: a 2-bar MAP sensor (if I'm not mistaken on the ty-sys). I did a search and found this thread (thank goodness it's VERY recent) and was curious what sensor setting Hunter (or others using the same unit) was using on his unit. I've tried various, but can't seem to get the voltage curve to match to what the car needs. Either I get too steep a slope and I show boost at 10" Hg or vice versa.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Damn impressive site, BTW. A buddy of mine did an audio system in a Ty for Panasonic a number of years back and I've really been impressed by them. Gotta love this much power.
