HP question

I've done some of the online calcs for HP based on ET/speed and I come with quite a bit more than 500 HP, IE in the 530 range.

Wt of my truck at the last trip to the dump was 4500, seems a tad high.
Best ET last trip to the track was 11.85, speed 116

I'm frankly amazed that I could be making that much HP on pump gas, some meth, an "only" 20# of boost. If I drop the wt to 4250 I still get 500 HP.

Maybe my question is what are some of you guys getting? IOW what mods to reach the same/close numbers?

I might have to make a dyno appointment.

Pleasantly surprised I guess.

Back to the track on Sun. I'll see what happens.

Comments appreciated, thanks.

Re: HP question

I thought Syclones were in the 3800lbs range? Maybe the scales were off?

It's all guesswork anyway until the dyno and even they vary considerably.

What HP calculator did you use? Have you tried it using the fuel/air/VE/RPM based calc?

From what I remember, a well tuned 20G could expect to make 450hp. I don't know your build but 500 doesn't sound that far fetched. Congrats!

:D

Please post results when you have an answer.

Re: HP question

My Syclone at the track scales was 3440 (3660 total weight - 220 driver). I have some weight savings. From what I have read Syclone weight about 3550-3600 stock, so my Syclone weight was right around what I expected.

Re: HP question

Don, those scales were off (unless you had 1000 lbs of stuff in the back). Got a metal recycling place near you? Go there. They'll weigh you for free (if not, haul off an old junk pushmower for a friend) and their scales are very accurate. Our local recycler has their's calibrated bi-monthly.

Re: HP question

Who cares Don, as long as you're kickin ass and keeping your opponents behind you I say why bother with a dyno run. Numbers are just numbers, crossing that line first is far more rewarding:tup:

Re: HP question

Have to agree with Mike!! Yup, sounds like a re-weigh is in order. I thought it sounded heavy. I know where most of the scales are around here so that will be easy.

Thanks all.

Re: HP question

You are probably making 440-470 HP range.:2cents:
Mine made 396 HP but it's all stock long block.

That certainly seems more reasonable. Should get some good runs tomorrow then I'll weigh the truck this week and restart so-to-speak.

Re: HP question

Truck scale I thought would be open was closed.

Here's today's times

First run

11.985 @ 116.90 1.825 60'

Fiddle with tune then

1.846 @ 117.21 1.722 60'

Fiddle again

11.809 @ 117.23 1.719 60'

No change

11.83 @ 116.20 1.681 60'

The last two seem reversed kinda. Faster 60' = slower ET

330' times improved in each case.
660' improved each time also.
1000' improved with the first 3 then didn't change

I find it interesting that in no case did boost exceed 19#

Previous best was 11.951

Very happy with these times. Just driving around truck feels very strong. Just so everyone knows the chip is by Eric at TurboTweak.

Next goal is to work on reaction times.
