Re: How to access middle spark plug

So what's the difference between those and the oft-reccomended UR5s?

-P

The NGK UR5 (stk #712) which is an obsolete standard nickel alloy spark plug. It was replaced by NGK 2771, also a standard nickel alloy spark plug.

You are probably referring to the NGK UR5 IX (stk #7177), iridium tip, 0.6 mm fine wire, pre- gapped at .040".

In comparison, the Denso ITF20 (stk #4973), 90% iridium, 0.4 mm fine wire, pre-gapped at .060".

Re: How to access middle spark plug

I have not changed spark plugs but one time since the engine was built. My associate replaced the AC Delco #2 Rapid Fire spark plugs with Denso ITF20TT Platinum spark plugs at 2,000 miles in 30 minutes. . Now the motor has over 8,000 miles on it and is running perfect. Since I did not personally change the plugs, I do not know how he did it so easily. I watched him do it and I know he did not to go through the fender well or disconnect the steering shaft.

Recently, I tried to remove and examine the Denso Platinum spark plugs for examination and had trouble removing the AC Delco spark plug boots. I purchased a L-shaped "boot puller" tool which made removing the boots a piece of cake. After I removed the boots, I started to remove the plugs starting with #3 spark plug, which is the most difficult. . I could not remove #3 spark plug with the various tools I have so I will get my associate to show me how he did it so easily. Maybe he has smaller hands and more patience than I do.

The box-end ratchet wrench may work if you remove the spark plug heat shields. With the heat shields attached to the manifold bolts, the spark plug socket does not protrude far enough to get the wrench on it.

Here is what I use on the #3 plug.

is that socket long enough to go outside the exhaust manifolds? i bought a few opf those and they sat flush with the manifold..if they would have been like 1/2 and inch longer they would kick ass

It sticks our far enough that I can't get a socket wrench on it. I haven't had any problems using this method.

Re: How to access middle spark plug

I tried it using those tools and my spark plug socket is too short. I even tried to use a off-set box-end ratchet wrench on the spark plug socket. .

I think my associate used a regular spark plug socket, a wobble joint and a 3/8 dr. ratchet. At any rate, he did not go through the wheel housings and he did not remove the steering shaft to get to #3 spark plug...

I will find out how he removed the plugs. I know he removed #2 spark plug shield in order to get more room for his hands and tools under the A/C compressor and to avoid cutting his hands with the sharp edges of the shield.

Re: How to access middle spark plug

That is correct...Iridium spark plugs should be use with a turbocharger and platinum with fuel injection. .

Denso ITF20 Iridium would be the ones to use with a turbocharger and Denso ITF20TT Platinum with fuel injection.

Maybe I'm the only one who's noticed; but I don't understand why you keep throwing out these recommendations on a forum that is clearly about Turbocharged vehicles without giving the necessary information to indicate that you're not talking about a turbocharged vehicle until somebody more knowledgeable calls you out on it and then all of a sudden you tell the rest of the story.

This is the second time you've done this on the topic of plugs alone that I've just happened to notice.

http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?p=911818

Do you give any consideration to the fact that new owners might read your recommendations on the Sy Ty forum and assume that it applies to... oh I don't know, maybe Syclones and Typhoons?

When you dismiss information or recommendations on this forum from members, and you give spark plug recommendations for turbocharged engines - is it from ANY experience with a Syclone \ Typhoon or are you just postulating?
