Re: How much does an engine weigh?

I'd say about 350lbs, b/c that last one i shipped was 375lbs intake to oil pan, and that accounted for about a 25 lb box.

Re: How much does an engine weigh?

Hey Mike:

I intend to put it in a triple layer, 1100 lb rated, corrugated box. Once I put it in a box what shipping co.can pick it up from my home and....most importantly......... how would I get it into the truck? I have no lift.

Thank you

How bout it?

Kev, You could get a couple of friends to help lift it into the truck after it is boxed up. I still might build a wood crate to ship that engine.

Re: How much does an engine weigh?

typically you need to nail (2) 4x4s or something to the bottom so the box sits off the ground and will allow a forklift or pallette jack to fit under. Being cardboard, it probably wont work. As for a home pickup, your best way is to shop around. Since you dont have a forklift it will be more expensive, and since its a residential shipment, it will probably double in cost. However the cheapest shipping company is Forward Air. The catch is you need to drop it off at one of their shipping ports, and it has to be picked up in the same way.. no door to door service, and you have to pay with a money order unless you have an account. no cash, check or credit cards..

We will most likely be unloading it with a forklift at a loading dock, so the 2X4's would be a good idea:2cents:
