Just got the notice in the mail from the DMV the other day... time to renew my tags. This also means that I get to have the Ty emissions tested. I haven't really thought much of it since I registered it last year, but I have done some things that might effect the results: no EGR, no evap canister, no cat...

So, since I'm wondering if I'm going to pass, I'd like to see how many others have this issue.

It's not like it used to be here, there is no more visual inspection anymore, just strictly the sniffer test. My truck squeezed by on the 2 speed idle test; in early tuning stages and having difficulty maintaining the 1200 rpm it needed to hold for 45 seconds or something. It passed first try, so I was stoked.

Under 5k miles driven per year, exempt in PA.

If you buy a car/truck it has to pass the first time then it can be exempt after that each year if it is under 5K miles. If you miss an inspection or are late getting your stickers be prepared to be tested again for emmisions and start all over. (PA only in non rural areas, Rural areas have no emmissions.)

No worries here. Only 1996 and newer OBDII vehicles are tested in Wisconsin. In fact, I'm a DOT-licensed inspector. Any questions Wisconsin peeps feel free to ask!

Thats the exact OPPOSITE of what it is here.

They visually inspect the car , and there is no more sniffer testing , lol.

As long as the emission stuff is installed, and the check engine light isnt on, youre all good :) ---

I keep my truck registered at my brothers house. No emissions in that county.

Mine is registered as a collector. They don't check anything but the odometer. As long as its not more than 7k miles in 2 years you get a new sticker and go.

In Ohio, you have a few options.
1. you can spend $10/year and get "collector" plates. Can be a pain in the butt, but I believe that this would be in the books as a collector vehicle in Ohio. Have not tried yet on mine.
2. If you spend $300 on emissions related repairs, you can waive it. Its only $200 if your readings get better. Not sure how strict they are on "related repairs"
I know you are not in Ohio, but thought others may find interesting.

They don't have all wheel drive testability in Spokane, so they just sniff at idle and 2500 rpm, or something like that.
I ran my 91 thru emissions in January with just a filter on the tbi and it passed. Next year I'll try it w/ the supercharger.
I know... ummm, SOMEONE that hasn't had a cat on his 450SL for 30 years. Always passed . But it's old enough to not worry about it anymore.

Visual and sniffer here. They just idle the truck at 2500 or so for 45 seconds, but, I have to go to a friendly station as everyone else fails me as soon as they pop the hood and see no EGR. Just waiting until she hits 25 and then I don't have to worry about emissions anymore.

We eliminated the I/M program here a couple years ago. Ironically as a car guy it's better this way, but as it was my job....

We were TSI (two speed idle) 2500 and idle. Full visual and functional as well.

Re: How many people here are subject to emissions requirements?

All we ever had was a safety inspection to get a new inspection sticker where I'm at in North La. They stopped checking headlight aiming a like 10 years ago probably. So they check all lights for illumination and proper function, windshield for cracks, tires for tread, a make sure the horn works. That's it for us.

Luckily I dont have to worry about that as I just slap a dealer tag on my cars and drive!

I would fail every aspect of that test.

I have not passed AZ emissions with the TY since I bought it over 2 years ago. It doesnt get driven much and neither do the other 3 cars that havent been smogged and have expired registrations.

with the black ty i'm in the same boat .but i just dummy attach the egr valve to the block off plate with longer bolts,, run a fake vacuum hose to it . let her go threw the paces and she passes every time . now with the white / grey ty i might have issues because of the tune and set up .

Re: How many people here are subject to emissions requirements?

Our inspection is now a safety check. The problem is our state has a tough exhaust noise laws. Our exhaust can not be louder than stock and their is no dB definition of what stock is so it's all subjective. I had problems when my Syclone was 100% stock

Re: How many people here are subject to emissions requirements?

If I had ‘Classic Vehicle’ plates, I would not have any inspections done here in Harris County, Texas (differs by county). However, I have regular plates so visual inspection and sniffer is required yearly.

Problem is that my Ty isn’t driven much more than 100 miles all year. Builds up hydrocarbons. This last month, I failed (first time in 12 years). I had to drive it. Really didn’t suck except for the price of premium gasoline. Drove a tank through it, changed the oil and passed. But, my Ty exhaust system is mostly stock.

Now that it is over 20 years, I will apply for classic tags.
