I'm the 4th owner (Not counting dealers). 1st owner bought it out of Inver Grove Heights, MN, then traded it to a contractor on a house. Contractor then traded it with a newer caddy for the top-of-the-line Mercedes. Some mystery horse-trading must have been done, since the title went from the Mercedes dealer (Valley Imports) to a local GMC/Pont./Olds Dealer with little or no paper trail that I can find. It was sitting in their dealership on the showroom floor with 8800 miles when my dad bought it in '94. It was perfect + stock, except for a slight scratch on the tailgate and a bunch of 'em in the bed. The gate was fixed, but the bed ugliness remains. I bought it from him in '96 or 7... I forget. I think it was '97, the year of the big flood.
It can't accumulate miles when it doesn't run. Been down almost 3 years now, and had trans problems a number of years in the past (before I decided it was time to learn how to build a trans). It got stored a lot from 8800 miles to about 12-13k. That was about from '94-'98. It's basically a "recovering Trailer Queen".
Even when it does run, it only sees May-October. I ran it once in the snow to move it 2 miles to a new shed... and that was on dry roads.
I've often wondered if it would have been better to have one a little less pristine. It still smells new inside- I like that. It still has the word "Syclone" in chalk mark on the inside of one wheelwell. I've polished the door sills several times to get rid of small scratches. Too much in one place, I'm down to primer.
Cladding was repainted in '01, by a guy that I wish I wouldn't have had do it. I'll probably do 'em again myself. There's also a bad texture spot in the hood (color isn't quite uniform) after the garage fell in on it one year, and he had to get it painted. With those fixed, and a good spray-in bedliner, it'd be Cherry again. Oh, yeah, I suppose I should put the motor and trans back in, too.
