how long has it been ?

i was reading a thread and someone mentioned it being alot of years since he worked on his truck due to a change in priorities. just wondering how many sy/ty are now back burner projects or sitting due to life changes , no monies or for whatever reason.

personally my ty had 66,500 miles when i got it in april of 2002 , started doing some minor up-grades in july of 2002 and there it has sat with 66,800 miles since. on jack stands , under a cover in heated storage. if i make it to homecoming will there be any prizes for the longest time spent on jack stand without the cover even being removed ?

Re: how long has it been ?

I stopped working on mine for like a week. I said to myself... Im going to stop being a slave to this thing and get outside and do some fishing.

Wow, 6 years is pretty bad! I wiped the bearings in my Ty back in Aug, and it still isn't back together. I haven't driven my syclone since Aug either. Between a wife, kid, full time job, a small business, and a huge home addition, time is pretty scarce. Just gotta keep your priorities in order. That's why I spend lots of time with my boy, and not so much with my trucks.

yeah number one reason was my daughter , shes older and wants to hang with daddy less and her friends more these days so im putting the finishing touchs on my 59 chevy as i had that long befor the ty , and then will probably uncover the ty.

It's been 3 years since I last drove the Syclone. I work on it when I feel like it & have CASH to pay for the parts I want or need.
I already went into debt on it once & I refuse to do it again.

i have more than one hobby, and more than 1 company, and less than 2 arms that work. My truck has been backburnered for a while...and when i finally started working on it I injured myself rendering it not even an option to work on it.

Re: how long has it been ?

Purchased mine July of 2004. Put about 4k mies on it between then and March of 2005. Started leaking oil from just about every place that it could. Later found it sat for about 4 years without being driven, thus drying the seals up. So lets see, March of '05, started to pull motor, and decided to do a frame off that wasn't really needed. Probably June of 05, took to my body guy. He pushed it outside his garage and it sat there until Spring of 06. Picked it up, without him touching it, packed it into my dads barn, and there it sat until probably June of 07 when I brought it back to my house. And uh, yeah, haven't touched it yet. Probably start back on it this winter. Then again, I've been saying that for awhile.

Last year I drove mine for about 400 miles and park it. This year I drove it for a total of 45 miles to get gas, smog and then I parked it. I just don't feel like driving it. I have alot of stuff to put on it and then play some more, but after getting it running right, I don't feel like working on it at all at this time. To top it off DMV just sent me a notice that my new plates are in, but I just don't feel like picking them up.

Here is a ? for ty166, How old is your daughter? When my daughter turned 13 I took her out for Father - Daughter dates to show her how a real man should treat her. Now that she is 19 and just left the house to go to a University, My wife and I are now MT nesters with the 2 boys in the USAF and our daughter gone as well. My daughter used to help with the Syclone as she wants one almost as much as a 1969 Corvette, Yellow in color. Maybe that why I don't feel like working on mine :dunno: .

Re: how long has it been ?

Its getting close to 2 years since I seriously drove mine.... probably about 3 since I really did anything major. Mix of daughter #1 being born, moving, house(s), jobs, etc.

Im hoping to break out here soon and start doing stuff again. Tired of bumming rides and driving other people's trucks at meets, time to get back behind my own truck where I belong.

I don't get it, I have a wife, a daughter, a business, BILLS, tons of problems with the TY, and I still drive mine every day. I think Loyd says it best, he just doesn't feel like it. I always hear loads of excuses but at the end of the day, there is just no love  Personally, I can't be with out my Ty running. It was out of commission for almost 5 months back in 05/06 and I damn near lost my mind w/o it.

my daughter is 11 right now , after school she hangs out with friends till dinner then homework and bed. for the last 4 or 5 years we do daddy daughter date night EVERY friday night. we still do it to this day , but now sleep overs at friends houses on saturday nights and now that summer is here she'll be at the pool every sat and sun. i put my daughter befor my cars , i always said the cars and the snowmobiles and other toys will always be there , but the grow up to fast , and once thier gone the tracks and the snow will still be there. i just dont know what i'll do when she tells me there's no more daddy daughter dat night because she's to old for that....

Re: how long has it been ?

Well yeah but....I still drive. Take Mike, a.k.a. CRITICAL, the guy goes out and buys a nice Syclone. Nothing wrong with it, then, he decides to strip the truck down, sell almost everything out of it and sell half of it, and then it sits in a field for years on end be3cause he hasn't the money to put it back together. Difference between me and everyone else? I wouldn't take my truck apart like that unless I knew I could fix it. Also, I do ALL of my work, no one touches it but me. This is why I don't get scared if I blow a motor, I know I can put it back together for less than $1200. I don't know, maybe I am just weird or something. And FWIW, I have more than one hobby as well, still don't see it. And when I do put these parts on, I'd bet money (not much of course  ) that it will still be just as reliable. I don't think I will be doing anything over the top, but maybe I am wrong. Just takes a little dedication

Don't worry, She will most likely ask for a Father / Daughter date from time to time until the day she leaves like my daughter did. She ask for 1 when she gets home in Dec for Christmas break. Now back to the topic at hand. Sorry for the :hijack: .

whatever she wants , start with dinner then roller skating , minature golf , lazer tag , movie, gameworks , dave and busters, bike riding on the lake front , rock climbing at dicks sporting goods, cruise the 59 , what ever she wants to do. we just go out and spent time together just me and her, and like said ealier i treat her like a lady, so when the stalkers start showing up on my door step she knows how to be treated. once i almost melted inside when i heard her tell he friend she couldnt sleep over on a friday night because she goes on a date every friday night.

i do laugh because she tells me "daddy i still miss the fast little black truck".
