How does one find a leaky throttlebody?

How can you determine that your throttle body has had it and is a vacuum leak? is there any procedure or around about way of singling the tb out as a vacuum leak i guess im asking?

Well if you have a higher than normal idle problem you can take water in a squirt bottle and apply a mist to pin point the problem if idle goes down start getting smapller squrts till you pin point it :tup:

People use carb cleaner aswell but i have seen 2 good size fires from that(just not for me)

Take off your turbo to I/C hose and do the bike tube trick . You'll easily hear it blowing past if it leaks , and is only 2 bucks for the tube .

Let the truck idle. Spray brake clean around it. If the RPM increases, then it is leaking

Carb cleaner is crap for this test. You want to do an air test. If you wnat I can post the link for how to do it. Screw it, here it is:

Best way I have ever seen. And its easy, just dont forget to turn your A/C down to about 20-30psi. I tried carb cleaner and found nothing. I tried this and heard a hiss. Sprayed windex around the shaft area and wiggled it and out came the bubbles.

And BTW, if you dont go with a bigger BBK unit, send it to Matt Blum, the guy is awsome. My TB came back in better than perfect shape.

That's great for a boost leak, but he asked for a vac leak

I always use starting fluid,your idle will go up when you find the vacuum leak.
Evaporates fast.

UUHH, it does check for VAC leaks tard monkey. It pressurizes the top end of the motor. Thats how I found that my throttle body was leaking.

hahah thanks for all the suggestions guys I actually suspect some massive vac leakage from the tb butterflys or from the lower intake gasket because my idle blows with a nice lean-ness to it

I'll spray down the intake areas with some carb cleaner and give your idea a try Mike
