how do you explain our trucks?

I took my truck to work today for the first time. I was helping another foreman so I did not need my van and I wanted to show off my Sy. Not the result I was looking for. I got comments like "why dont you buy a real truck"..."if you want something fast get a car"... and one guy said" what a POS"...

I almost started to cry...NOT...Yes I smoked all 4 as I left. I explained how rare and fun they are to drive....

I guess some people dont get it... or am I just weird? I love our trucks. The look and feel as I drive one makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It could be the fact that I owned a GT for 12 years and a sy for one. I had a fast cars, big trucks, muscle cars...but nothing feels or makes me smile like owning a SY.

I get the same reaction here in Canada even more so because less people seem to know what they are. I explain what they are and how many were made, some seem impressed while others think it's stupid. I don't care what they think because i know what i have and i enjoy every minute i am driving or wrenching on it...and at the end of the day that's all that matters :tup:

I'm in the same boat. While trying to source parts locally (in Alberta) I always ask if they have a listing for a Typhoon just in case it's SyTy specific. After I get "a who?" for an answer I give up and say "it's just a model of the 4wd Jimmy".

Try pulling up to the gas station at the propane filler and asking him to put $20 in the black 1981 AMX outside. I *always* got razzed about the "BBQ on wheels" but I didn't mind too much. It had a 401cu 4spd 12.5:1 comp and went like hell.

I love my truck, and usually I get compliments on it when I drive it. Here at school most people just think I'm insane for driving an SUV, no matter how special it is. There are a couple people who know what it is. In fact, I think that my roommate is going to send me to the looney bin after I told him I'm buying a Sonoma GT too :lol:

I know, people are crazy. I love it, but hate it at the same time, get's annoying. I feel I have the perfect combo between the Ty and my flashy 69 Camaro. I get love from both sides. I know how you feel though, people just don't know.

The way I see it, a Syclone (or Typhoon, SoGT), isn't just a machine, but an expierence. The one thing I always hear whenever I take someone for a ride is "wow, the tires didn't spin or anything", along with "holy s**t" when they realize we're already at 60. The most irritation comes from those who drive econoboxes and don't understand why a V8, AWD, limited-production truck is so much fun:rant: .

Yeah I have the same thing happen with owning my Camaro and my Sy. My Camaro catches a lot of attention due to the paint, wheels and stance so car people and non car people dig it for the most part. Plus I love all cars so it doesn't take long for me to persuade import only lovers that it's alright. :lol: As for the Sy, I try explaining and find that some people care and some people don't give a rats ass. About 70% of the people that like my truck are total frickin car geeks just like all of us. I try telling the people that mock it for being a little truck about it's accolades for being a frickin rocket. They just ask me why I would want a fast truck.:roll: I just stop at that point.

i have been turned away at local resturant cruise ins ,''this is for classic cars"i try to explain what it is,they roll their eyes,ok this time.it hurts,knowing i could kill 90% of the cars there.

Wow, I get alot of positive remarks, funny one was the little kids down the street playing, maybe 6 or 9 yo and as I pull out from where I live I see them stop playing and stare at my truck from accross the street and I hear one of them say really loudly "I like your truck" I laugh and say thanks. Most of the time though it's oh wow this takes me back, or maybe it's wow my buddy used to have one of these. Only once I can recall getting a look of "phhht, Intercooled, what ever" 20 minutes later that night he handed over 50 bucks for loosing to my intercooled v6 to his EVO. I love the young and dumb ones, they think their 15 minutes of being out of high school makes them a genius.
