when i am driving i get hot air through the vents, mostly at the center floor vent and the heater is not on at the switch. anyone experience this b4? is it a vacuum leak or is one of the vent doors stuck open? i want to delete the heater all together but that looks like a serious job for later. just looking for a quick fix.

Re: hot air

Might need to give it more than an hour (especially around quitting time).

From another thread:

...I just had this problem on my truck and I found the connecting clip on the lower door that direct air flow up top broke. You can check this by removing the heater duct in front of the console, there are two screws holding this. On the passenger side of the truck, look up with a small flashlight toward the driver side about 3.5" from the bottom and you will see the vacuum operator at the end of this there is a clip that breaks. The part # for the clip is 1224062 cost was $4.56.

Also, if you have any hissing behind the heat / a/c control, that's another vacuum problem.

Re: hot air

You are probably going to have to investigate. Take off the plastic panels from the bottom of the dash from the center to the pass side. Then you can take off the center grate thing to get a look at what is happening with the different flaps/doors in there. And there is one behind the glove box and another behind the pass side kick panel.

Mine did the same thing when I got it. I could tell that someone had the dash out to replace the heater core. They put it back together wrong and caused a plastic clip to break.

On mine. The door was right there at the center vent. There was always a fair amount of air coming out of it regardless of what was selected on the HVAC. It wasn't always hot though. I found that some small little spring thing was put on wrong which prevented the flap from moving. The stress caused the plastic clip that holds the vacuum operated control rod to the flap itself to break.

There are a few of these different doors up in the dash. You are going to probably have to start pulling stuff off to get a look at them all.

But first, check the main vacuum line to the HVAC system in the engine compartment to make sure it is still attached and not broken. It's up at the firewall almost in the center.

Good luck.

Re: hot air

If you can't hear the vacuum changing positions at the control valve. The other thing that you can check is on the pass side running the length of the intake under the throttle body is a black vacuum plastic line that is connected at the front of the upper half of the intake and at the rear of the intake it go into a T at the very end. On 1 side of the T the line go into the cab for the AC stuff and on the other end goes to the vacuum ball or tank under the battery. Note: There are other things that are connected to this line as well so work slow and pay attention when you work back there. Be sure to buy really small clamp or use tie wraps at all vacuum fitting.

Re: hot air

Sounds like your temperature selection door is stuck open due to the cable becoming disconnected at one or both ends... Check out my post here.

Re: hot air

alright, i checked the vent door behind the glove box and it was open so i switched the temp. to hot (all the way up on the selector) and it closed the vent. now it doesn't blow THAT MUCH hot air out of the center floor vent. the pass. kick panel is closed and does not open while driving. the fire wall vent is fully open at idle and just blows lots of air even if i disconnect the vacuum line that goes to the vacuum ball thing in front of it. i even pulled the heater fuse to see if the heater was coming on while driving. that didn't change anything.

don't know what to do next.
