Can I install my Electric fan temp switch into the hose going to the heater core or is the coolant only sent to the heater core when the heater is switched on? If so what other coolant hose would work to put this switch in? The adapter is 5/8" Any help would be welcome :)

Coolant flows through the heater core regardless of the heat/no heat position. Changing the temperature only closes a door via a cable so that the heat from the heater core doesn't come in the cab.

Hi Guys,

I’ve been around a long time but just jumped on the SyTy forum after a few years. I have a pristine 1993 Ty. Blk, Blk, Blk. I bought from the original owner in 1994 with 4K on it.

I solved the heater core problem years ago. The post above is correct that coolant flows all the time. I realized this years ago and figure out that the performance of the engine was too hard on the heater core after replacing it three times.

THE FIX, I installed a 70 vintage Chrysler inline water valve and ran a choke type cable under the dash. I close the valve all summer and only turn it on in winter or when I want heat. When the valve is on I DO NOT max out my TY's performance.

I did this 8 years ago and have not blown a heater core since.

Ok how the hell does the lower shroud come off? Do I have to take the rad out? God i hope not

Not bitching about the difficulty. Just didn't want to take out the rad.:squint:

I would like to say that is the dumbest place to put a drain cock for a rad. lol
