Holley HP install and tips

You "COULD" make an adaptor, but you would also lose things like individual fueling per cylinder adjustment, plus still have to deal with a wideband o2 sensor wiring that is not factory. You will limit yourself on the features available with the Holley that is a main reason to go with it.

coil on plug could be done REAL easy on a holley, nobody done it yet that I know of though.

I'm doing the next best thing Jeff.. 3x2 coils with crank and cam signals... Should know if it will work soon!!

See ya,

I know of a syclone that is doing ls coils and a dominator, hopefully test firing in a couple weeks. It was running the stock ecm with the ls coils already so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Paul, how are you going to adjust timing with that crank sensor? I remember reading people were having issues with fixed crank sensors like ls engines have. From what I can tell the crank sensor is adjusted to advance or retard the timing. Some ls people have gone to crank triggers for that reason.
Not sure if you thought about that yet or if you already have a plan but just wanted to mention just incase :)

Randy, you have posted lots of great info and I'm glad the system is working out well for you!

Got some of my parts, working on the swap now. I will be using the holley for boost control,tc lock up,wbo2 and more. Going to clean out all the old school boxes. Will also be using a dell pad for virtual dash

I have internal and really don't want to turn this into a big project. But I think if I go external I will do to solenoids.

I am only using one because I have a pte internal wg and the actuator only has one port. My holley dealer highly recommended using 2 solenoids for more stable boost control.
That being said I have not finished getting my sy back together yet so I have not tested the single solenoid setup yet.

Good luck :D

I know you went without the tranny controller but I was looking at mine and the vss pigtail is too short because of the transfer case. I could probably hook up the turbine sensor without adding on extra length to the wires but would that register the same as the speed sensor or would it be adviseable to just lengthen the vss wires?

If I knew, I would tell you. I honestly have no idea. I would post the question to the forum and see if someone that has done this before would chime in. I assume you are running an 60e or 80e and the Dominator?

Re: Holley HP install and tips

PM from DaveP that may help some folks:

Randy:

I don't fully understand Ted's question. The 4L80e has 2 sensors. The output sensor is the rear one, and is same speed and pulses as our T-case sensor. The front one is the Turbine speed sensor, and is the speed of the input shaft. It will be a different speed than output speed depending on gear it's in, and TC slippage. He can't use the front one vehichle speed.

The Dominator P4 transmission harness has provisions for both sensors. The Dominator does not use the front sensor for any calculations, but it can be monitored, and logged.

The Dominator has a speedometer output available. Map it in the pin-map, and wire the output to the blu/blk wire that is on the stock DRAC. The Dominator has speedometer corrections available for this output.

Another way is to use the stock DRAC, and connect the twisted pair (purple and lt green) directly to the T-Case VSS. This leaves a few more components and wiring under the dash, but it a foolproof way to get the speedo to work as a stand-alone system.

You're welcome to copy/paste this into your thread for future reference.

Re: Holley HP install and tips

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I have 60e and the length of the vss pigtail isn't long enough to reach the back of the transfer case. If it were two wheel drive the vss port would be closer and it would fit. I believe the harness wasn't designed for a 4x4 application. My old pcs harness worked fine. And There isn't a turbine output on the 60e.

The vss pigtail is to the left and when the main transmission connector is plugged in it is too short to reach the speed output. The turbine however has plenty of length and the same weather pack connector. Which is why I was wondering if I could use that pigtail instead of adding length to the other one.

What dave said sounded familar so looks like you have a 80e harness, or probably the same and they just use a one for all. Just undo the wrapping and give yourself some slack and re-wrap it..
I had a dominator and 60e in my truck, but its not in front of me atm or id go out and look at the harness..

I was going to suggest this. I had to de-loom part of my pre made harness in order to make it fit when I installed the Holley on my truck.
