High idle sometime

Syclone #2481
I changed out my spark plugs, wires, coil, cap/rotor, about 2 months ago, hoping to fix my idle problem. On some startups Syclone Idles at a high RPM, around 2200, even after driving, with a nice pulling when you press on the brakes do to the high idle. On some startups, not many, it idles fine, and drives fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need to see if I am throwing any codes, and I heard of the paperclip trick, but not sure how to read the codes that flash. HELP!

Re: High idle sometime

Is your check engine light on?

You probably dont have any codes stored if its nto on.

I would recommend resetting the IAC first by entering ALDL mode for 45-60 seconds.
Jumper A & B terminals of the ALDL and cycle the key to ON.
you can get out and hear the IAC spinning.
turn it off, pull the ECM B fuse to reset the ecm and try it again.

Re: High idle sometime

It does flash on once and a while, but the guages have never really been any good. They kind of just jump sometimes, and the CE light flashes once and while. I think all my problems lie within my ECM...

Re: High idle sometime

if your tach is jumping around that is ignition related problems.

Time for cap rotor wires and plugs.

Stab it and steer it
Re: High idle sometime

Try new intake manifold gaskets, cures everything. :rotf: Actually another thought would be to check the throttle body. Is it being held slightly open for some reason like a bad TV cable or shaft play?

If it only does it on start up and you try blipping the throttle does it go away??? mine does this I though it might be a cold start up setting

I just replaced them and the idle is still high. Like I said, brand new wires plugs rotor cap and coil.

It does it until I shut the truck off and then restart it. And then sometimes it still has high idle.
