HID's

changed the topic here.

i've been reading up on all the different things people have tried and would like to know what you suggest gives the best bang for your buck

i've seen a few trucks with DIY hid's, the E code hella's and a couple others.

i'm really not wanting to build an HID retrofit more just looking for something simple that gives off alot better lighting.

also i found the upgraded headlight harness from LMC but it's vague info didn't tell me if i would have to cut the current harness up or simply replace the whole thing from the firewall bulkhead all the way out.

opinions here as well, did you DIY your own upgraded harness or buy one?

i'lll be paying attention to warmpancakes thread to see how his setup works out

This topic has been beaten to death. You can read up on it here and here. Please read both before the debate begins again...

Re: HID's

man theres alot of illegal cars in my drive way then, i have hids on most of my cars, and none came with them

Re: HID's

And by looking at the pictures, your HID is shining all over the place.. this could blind on coming traffic.. And I hate when I come across that.

It is pretty bright so I run with just my headlights on but in the area I'm in the light is needed. I'm in a smaller town with alot of unlit roads with open range cows and deer everywhere. I would rather deal with a car passing with bright lights then watch them hit a cow at 55 or 70. I'm a fire fighter and I get alot of calls for the jaws of life because of that happening. But thats just my :2cents:

That is why they make high beams, or dual stage HID. What about when you are in the city?
How do you turn them down? It drives me nuts when someone puts on HIDs and they are blinding me.. city or not.

Well everyone does their own thing I'm not going to argue about it.

Re: HID's

I did a similar install to this one, and I've never been highbeamed... and it doesn't blind anyone... you just need to shield the entire bottom half of the hid bulb so all the light bounces off of the top reflector and down onto the road... and if your lights are actually aimed correctly, there won't be a problem...

Correct they are completely useless without the shields.. and if the housing sucks balls like the ones posted then your still going to get tons of scattered useless blinding light.

original poster should look into some shields and get a good set of head lamps... my kit is a high/low setup with hella glass housings euro spec which work great. I also went with a 6000k bulb because I wasn't after the overly annoying blue color I just wanted a hint of it and the better visibility. Plus without all the redicious blue the cops don't bother me at all.
