Hey everyone, i'm new to syty net and probably hangout here more often considering i'm among the few serious boosted s10forum guys. Today's post is to ask and talk about timing with other guys with big turbos and vortec heads. I'm currently running 20 degrees advanced at 4400-6000rpm peak running 93 octance. I am removing the muffler and running 14lbs and what to get an idea about where to set my initial timing and compare to what the syty guys are running.

heres the setup

1997 Chev s10 stepside
4.3l v6, ported vortec heads
comp cams top end, custom cam with reveresed duration
9.2:1 forged pistons, crank and rods shotpeened and magnafluxed (my weak point?)
Master power journal bearing T70 turbo with an A2A front mount

@9psi made 353whp @5300 and 397lbs @4400rpm with 20 degrees of timing

No alcohol injection, just stock injectors with a SDS EIC with 2 86lb injectors

heres a pic of the setup.

I'd like to hear some responses about when u guys encounted knock, what timing is safe and what are ur setups. On the s10f theres only 1 or 2 two running similiar setups but on here i see its comes to find big turbo's and vortec heads

20 degrees total, including what the ECM adds, or 20 degrees in addition to it?

Either way, it's a lot on pump gas. Our stock calibrations ran in the 14-15 area, and that was with less compression, and more boost.

Also, where did you put the injectors? That manifold really wasn't designed to wet-flow. There's a reason the spiders spray close to the ports.
*EDIT* - nevermind, I see the injectors. I can just about guarantee you're getting poor distribution.

You'll likely run out of fuel before too long. You didn't mention a wide-band... how are you measuring AFR?
What's your scan tool show for knock?
