OK I can't get the tensioner bacl on. I have a brand new Gatorbelt already routed and it is routed correctly and it seems to tight to get the tensioner on.

Someone with some knowledge of how to get this on please help me!

Yeah I checked all that. I can't get the tensioner to go back into the little notch on it's bracket.

Should I be able to tighten the tensioner instead of trying to force it into place?

Should I try buying a new tensioner?
Any thoughts welcomed!!

i can never get the tensioner pulley on last. what i do is route all properly and leave the alternator as the last pulley to hit. then i use a big wrench on the tensioner and slip the belt onto the alternator pulley.

Sounds like you have a non A/C belt.
Compare the old belt with the new one for length.

I agree that it may be the wrong length belt, but if it's not...
I usually do the tentioner pulley last for the simple reason that it's smooth and you may damage the belt forcing it over the alternator pulley. I use a 6pt socket and ratchet instead of a wrench. A ratchet handle extention for better leverage does the trick nicely. If you don't have one just get an old tent pole or somethign similar.

I'm not sure if I understand you correctly but I have to BEND the tensioner up a few inches in order to slide in the serpentine belt.. Preferably a 2 man job but it's possible if your nickname like mine is the "scrapmaster"

Number 15mm size tool I think.. Not 100% sure though. Use two to get extra leverage. One crossing over the other.

yes you have to twist the pulley thats attached to the end of the tensioner arm counter clockwise to be able to slip the belt under the pulley. it's easily done by 1 person once your familiar with the procedure.

If he doesn't do this then no wonder he's able to mount the belt? But was the problem that he couldn't get the tensioner back to its orginal position?

Sounds.. weird

OK...back to the original post.
Maybe you need to be a little more specific?
Did you take the tentioner pulley off?
You shouldn't have had to take anything off... just use a wrench/ratchet on the front of the tentioner pulley. It will rotate upward allowing you to slip the belt on or off. It's a fairly tough spring so you may want to have an extra pair of hands on your first time. If I remember correctly it's 14mm or 15mm but I could be wrong.

Let us know if you got it on. If this doesn't help any then post more specific questions and I'm sure we'll be able to help you. I can even post a short video if necessary of how the tentioner rotates up.

Yeah if you could send me a video that would be great. My tensioner doesn't really move at least not enought to do anything. Should I go get another tensioner if it doesn't move?

OK...Here is the video for you.
You will see that I had an extention on my ratchet to give me more leverage.
First - I removed the air intake for better access
Next - I used (16mm???) socket and set ratchet counter-clockwise
Then - Once on the pulley, just lift as if you were loosening a bolt
You should have enough slack now to position the belt as seen in the video
Finally - Slowly allow the pulley to return to it's original position

NOTE: BE SURE THAT THE BELT IS FOLLOWING THE CORRECT PATH
AND PROPERLY POSITIONED ON ALL OTHER PULLEYS BEFORE RELEASE!

This video is fairly big

Her is a smaller file
