so i bought my truck a week ago and i bought it with the front diff blown out.
i removed it tonight and found this

do you think i can reuse the carrier? would doing a rebuild be the easiest? i have the ability to rebuild it i have done several rear ends and set them up but never a front end like this.

next question if i decide to try and find a different front end what vehicles do i need to look for one out of ? will only a bravada one work or will a astro van one work also . i searched and came up with this info and from reading 94-95 and up front ends wont work correct?

sorry for the long post just new to the sy game

Re: help on front diff

Where are you located? If you use a bravado gear ratio is 3.73 not 3.42 as in sy ty

Re: help on front diff

I would ditch that carrier its pretty chewed up. Setting up a ring and pinion in these is pretty much the same as a rear diff it just assembles differently.

Re: help on front diff

Run to the pick and pull and just pull a 3.42 ratio front diff from a blazer or s10. It will likely have very little use and then just swap the axle tube as the diff101 thread shows! A bravada will have too much use just like ours.

lol just seen this it was a pain in the ass but if you take the center link loose it helps free up some room I also bent the hell out on my lower mount lol going to suck going back in

Re: help on front diff

I've come to learn that there are 3 ways to get these out. 2 are a pain in the ass. The one easy way is with the motor gone. Then its rather quick and easy.

The next easiest way is to take the center link out. not loose, but out. move the pitman arm, idler, and disconnect each end and set the whole thing aside. Next, that lower mount, go ahead and just pry that out of the way for now. You can hammer it back when it goes back in. Next, lift each control arm up till you start picking the truck up. leave them up. remove the half shafts. Drop the passenger side from the 2 bolts, not the whole mount. Unbolt the other mounts. Pry it down and rotate it out. If you are under the carrier itself looking up towards the passenger wheel, rotate it so the mount you had to bend comes down first. The whole thing will come out. To put it back, reverse and get a rubber mallet to tap it back up.

3rd way... only for junkers. Get yourself one of these nice DeWalt battery 5" cutoff wheel tools and 2 batteries and a pack of discs. Start cutting everything off. :p
