Help get my computer settings back to stock, please!

I bought my Typhoon in August and have put a total of 600 miles on it. I have wanted one of these ever since I was 13 at the SyTy Nationals in Kansas City in 2000. The problem is that the guy who had it before me did too much tinkering with the computer and now it won't run correctly. There is an Ostrich module in the glovebox and I know nothing about it.

Here is what the truck does:
If you give it full-throttle, the truck runs okay up through 10 psi, but from 10 to 15 psi it freaks out surging and it falls on its face. It acts like it is dumping fuel, then cutting it, then dumping it, then cutting it.

How can I just get everything back to stock settings? I don't want anything amazing right now, I'd just like it to run correctly.

Where are you located? Start by doing a full tun up. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter. Check base timing. Need to get a date logger of some sort.

Do you have more details about the truck. What is modified? This could be as easy as put a stock chip in it if there isn't any big modifications. Or it could be as hard as a full custom tune once all of the maintenance stuff mentioned above is done.

It doesn't seem like you know what MAP sensor it has or anything.

Right now we don't know what setup you have. Going back to stock is a great idea.

You need to know what your fuel pressure is, what injectors you are running and what MAP sensor you have.

Take a pic of the injectors and post it here.
Take off the MAP sensor (plastic box beside the throttle body on a bracket with hoses, rhs of the intake as you look at it from the front) Should be a part number there - take pics of the underside and post it here.
Can you find what your fuel pressure is set to? Is there a guage in the truck? Otherwise you need to get a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail - there is a -4 AN nipple with a valve in it. remove the valve with the truck off and connect the guage.

You're looking for about 36 psi at idle. You don't even need to start the truck - put the key in and prime it so the pump turns on.

Once we have this info you can work out what tune/fuel pressure/MAP settings you need.

While you are at it, download TunerPro RT version 4 (google) and once we have the other info we can load the right tune into the truck for you or get you started.

You need to do a lot of reading here but taking the truck back to stock is a really good idea - I wish I had done that!!!

Re: Help get my computer settings back to stock, please!

I will look into some of the things you all mentioned.

Steve, I printed out EVERYTHING that RiceEater had ever written or posted before buying the truck. I confronted him about every problem that he had had and every part that he had said he replaced. The problem is, he knew about this heistation surge problem at high boost and simply attributed it to tuning it at a cool temperature time of the year. He said it would work itself out when the weather got cool again. This was not true as the problem still exists.

^^^I learned all this the hard way last year when I bought an 87 Chrysler Conquest TSi AND THEN found the owner's posts online.

You guys work fast. I'll have to let you know some of the numbers and facts you need to continue the diagnosis. I'm at work today and the truck is being stored for the winter at my parents' house so I'll go check it out this evening or tomorrow after work.

Thank you so much.

In the linked post the past owner mentioned that he has install Alky injection, does it still have that? Is it out of Alky?

When the engine cuts out, does the tach flutter? (indicative of an ignition problem)

The tune it has might be incomplete (meaning never finished), so that could be a big question mark. Getting the Truck on scan tool would be advisable.

The engine sounds like it's mostly stock, but you need to figure out what it has for mods. If its close to stock you could bring it back to to run a stock chip, I would guess it has at least 3 bar map since he was doing ecm tuning. You could also learn to tune the engine yourself and start doing code59.

I know, I know, holy thread revival, sorry guys.

I have the fuel pressure at prime and the MAP sensor, but I don't have the injector specifications yet. The PSI at prime was 38 PSI and the MAP sensor number is 1007M20.
