OK, I am planning on driving to the Nats again. I would like to do the drive in 2 day trips, (ie not straight through 24 + hours), stop off somewhere in middle (Ohio is approx. the middle for me), relax sleep and then drive another day.
So what I am driving.
I had initially plan to get the motor done by while I was working part time. Unfortunately one of my dogs, Amadeus had brain swelling and we ending finding a tumor on his thyroid through the process. The dog's vets bills have exceeded what a build short block. So with part time work and strain on my savings account and rainy day fund, it put a halt to my motor swap with all the tests. He is still alive and he was my wifes wedding present. He is to my wife what my Sy is to me and maybe even more.
So do I rush to get my truck ready for the trip? I have 5 days before I start my new job. I won't have time to clean and detail everything I would like and would probably pull most of it apart of the winter. I need to get a motor from the junkyard, clean up and finish rewiring aftermarket adds on (alky, WB, MSD 2 step), have the machine work down on the heads, and then tune it. If I want to do any serious WOT, I will need to finish my Hartman rebuild and swap transmissions. (I just know my stock tranny won't hold up) As long as nothing holds me up too much I should be able to get my motor and truck back together, however I am worried about the transmission. Because my build is going to be different and I have never rebuilt a tranny before, I want to do some some part throttle tuning before I swap my built tranny in. As I see it now I would probably be doing that in labor day weekend. I also haven't driven my Sy since last July so who knows will be working. The more I write this the crazier it seem to be driving 24 hours in a Truck with some many new parts.
One of my other options is to drive my beater and its 40mpg to the Nats or drive somewhere to meet up with another SyTy owner as co-pilot.
