Hella Headlights causing hot wiring?

The previous owner of my truck installed Hella headlights. I don't know much about them, other than they put out a bright-ass, intense, white light compared to stockers. I'm not sure if they are true HID, as no wiring changes appear to have been made, I see no ballasts, etc. Problem is that both the headlight switch and the wiring leading to the switch get pretty hot, almost too hot to touch. Then the lights begin to flicker on and off after about 30mins of driving (that's not fun), I'm assuming as the switch begins to overheat.

I'm going to swap out the headlights from the Sy to see if it still does the same. I swapped the switch with no luck. Any other thoughts what might be causing these symptoms?

Im pretty sure they sold a wiring upgrade to be used with those lights, or you could put in a relay.

But don't those lights have a picture of a Syclone on the box? They should be perfect for our trucks!!!!

Yes. The Hellas cause hot wiring with stock wiring. Will's (will_in_denver...er will_in_china  ) old Ty burned up the plugs with hellas if I remember correctly. Melted all the plastic and everything. He had to rewire them for them to work right.

I'd say better than stock wiring or a relay is needed.

Yeah, it's the Hellas causing the problem. Swapped out the lights in the Sy, and everything works fine now, no overheating. I'll probably just go buy some stock-style headlights and be done with it. Thanks for the input.

If you're looking for some good stock style headlights, go with Sylvania Silver Stars: LINKY

I have them in my Ty and they are awesome for the price. $24.99 each.
