Headlight issues

I think I finally fixed my fuel pump issue the other day, which may or may not be related to my new problem. The other day my Ty wouldnt even start, and had zero fuel pressure. For those who havent read my fuel pump post, I had problems with my upgraded Walbro pump, and have since replaced it with another 255lpm, then all of a sudden, the Ty wont start again.

So I trace all the wires to the pump, 12v at the relay, 12v coming from the relay (it clicks too), 12v at the connector above the license plate, all with no sound or pressure from the pump. So I pull the pump, and found a small black two prong connector with a slightly melted terminal- probably causing all my past fuel pump problems! Soldered it back together, and the truck runs great again.

Now onto my new problem-

So I get the truck back on the ground to test drive it, and I have no low beams!! High beams come on fine when you flick the directional lever. The parking lights work as normal. I read in my owners manual that there is no headlight fuse, that there is a breaker or something integrated into the headlught switch. I figured there has to be a relay or something somewhere to check. Im hoping I disturbed something while searching for my fule pump problem.

Does anyone know where to start checking?

Re: Headlight issues

There should be 12 volts coming in on the red wire to the headlight switch, then 12 volts going out the brown wire when the lights are turned on. Take the plug off the back of one of the headlights and see if you are getting 12 volts there. Then trace backwards.

Re: Headlight issues

I agree. My logic was telling me the problem is after the dimmer. I just didnt know if there were separate relays for high and low beam or something. Im at work today and wont get to check for voltage at the bulbs until the morning.

That dimmer can cause all kinds of grief- I had no dash lights because of it, until I swapped it with the one in the Sy just for kicks.:2cents:

Re: Headlight issues

The dimmer is a bit of a bugger. I didn't change mine but DID change the ign sw. Dimmer is a piece of cake with the column down. I'd start at the headlights. number of years ago I had both low beams burn out at once.

Re: Headlight issues

What do you know, it was the headlights. I didnt think it was likely that both blew at the same time, but that was it.
