Re: headers

I was told that headers are a waste of $$$ unless you are into the 11's. Just my $0.02.

Re: headers

Headers are a pricey upgrade.. ATR used to make them and pop up for sale from time to time, Same deal with KB headers.. MPE makes super nice custom ones as does RPM but like I said there expensive plus like stated above people have hit 10's and 11's with the stock manifolds. I'd personally put the money elsewhere first

make your own if you got a mig welder?

Been talked about before, matter of fact about a month ago or less I made a thread asking about diy headers. I was informed that the price of all the parts already made up, all you had to do was weld wouldnt really be that much less then buying then already done. :(

There is no such thing as a "bang for buck" when your talking about headers for our trucks. I'm gonna be one of those stock exhaust manifold guys here soon. We'll see how long they last, or if they hold me back. Thats if I get enough money together to do what I'd like. ;)

Re: headers

best bang for the buck is a good tune!

as for headers...good upgrade, but stock manifolds have gone 10's. Put your money in a good tune.

Re: headers

+1 for not needing them to go really fast, but after seeing my motor with headers on it, i'd never go back to manifolds ever again just because they look sooo badazz

Re: headers

i have considered building my own but i have been told the same things about the stock manifolds holding there own. what about just doing some porting on the stock manifolds?? plus one of the big things i was goin for with headers is the sound over all. i thot it would sound much better with headers.

Re: headers

IMO, it's a V-6, it will never sound THAT cool. If your wanting good sound, focus more on making the turbo as loud as possible ;)

Sound???? Who cares what your sy/ty sounds like... Its meant to go fast.

This coming from a guy who only lists exhaust, muffler, and load of stereo equipment in his sig.

Re: headers

The muffler was for performance gains only not noise. And its just as quiet as it was stock. Yes it does have a sound system in it. I run a stereo shop and we take it to shows. Not for noise, but for sound quality. But thanks

Re: headers

Just weld in a exhaust cut out to the dp and you'll get all the noise you want plus a few lbs and if your on the stock turbo/wastegate you'll also get some over boost :)

Re: headers

i am a die hard domestic guy and always will be......but i do like alot of japanese styling and concepts. i would like to run full three inch exaust and i want to run a HKS or Greddy muffler with a 5" tip. i know u guys might think thats ricey but it has its performance gains and i no it wont sound like a bumble bee. it should sound more along the lines of a supra which i love the sound of!!

Re: headers

I have a 3inch exhaust all the way back with a Magnaflow muffler. Still sounds stock and noticed a little difference. I build Honda motors on the side (20 years) They can get loud. But if done right, they sound good.

Re: headers

lol, you guys worried about sound must not have a dump tube.

dump it from the DP and you can't even hear inside your truck...I know I have one. Its out of control and its a stock motor.

with a 5" tip.

Alright.. By "tip" do you mean an actual tip on the end of the pipe that sticks out of the ass end of the truck? Or do you mean 5" exit pipe from the muffler?

If your talking about a real "tip" that will look like shit. Honestly. But if your talking about a muffler with a 5" exit pipe(s), why? It wont do anything for you in performance other then cause less backpressure.
