Hi guys, Im new to the sy/ty family. I bought a syclone that has kb headers. Well my question is are they suppose to glow? They are wrapped with thermal wrap but when I pop the hood to let out the heat you can see them glowing. I had a buddy tell me that its normal because the wraps hold in the heat. Is this normal? I have a wideband on my dash and it stays normal at cruising speeds and at Idle which is around 14.2-.7. Thanks for any help.

You might want to hook up Datamaster or TunerPro and check your timing. If you're not running enough advance you may be dumping a lot of heat out through the exhaust valves and into the headers.

I don't think that is normal. To me that sounds like exessive heat. Mine do not glow.

Where are you located? I also have a F.A.S.T computer and don't know much about it. I'm taking mine to a tuner so he can check it out with his lab top. He only charges 200 bucks for a road tune. I would check around for a local tuner who has expericane with SycTys or GNs.

if you download the software,xcom, from www.fuelairspark.com and have the link cable you can hook up to it and it'll give you a dashboard to view your settings

If you're runnig Vortec heads you'll need to run more timing. There used to be more posts on this, but this is all I could find. Too many server crashes I guess.

You're either too rich or too lean. You said the AFR looks good, but what are you using for a gauge? Are you using a wide band O2 sensor or one of the nifty light shows that aren't accurate?
Do you have an EGT gauge?

Were should my a/f be at? It sits pretty steady at the normal 14.5-.7 at idle and cruise. My truck has ported brodix heads. I also do have the link cable and lap top that I can see my tune. If some one can walk me through it I would be willing to give it a try. The truck also has 84lb injectors. Thanks to all that has responded.cloneman315 said:

You'll actually get beter idle quality @ around 13:1.
Get the CCOM program, a laptop & hook it up via the cable. Connect via the communications drop down at the top menu.
Then select View from the top menu, Closed Loop Parameters & then AF Ratio Table.
You'll see a bubble hovering around. Try changing the cell/cells that the bubble is touching to 13.0.
See if this improves the glowing header problem.
Check your timing.
Get a timing light. Preferably a "dial-back light" if you don't have a Fluidamper or ATI damper that have numbered marks on it. Hook it up to #1 plug wire and read what the timing is.
Now select View from the top menu, then Spark Functions & then Base Spark Table.
You'll see a hovering bubble again. Make sure the number that the bubble is on matches the number your read from the damper. Don't change anything here, yet!
