Has anyone ever slid their center console forward a few inches?

Looking to redo the sub box in my Syclone. It's a very odd box that sits partially behind my center console. The new subs I have are about 2 inches deeper than my existing ones, and I will need to make the room somehow. Pic for reference:

My preference would be to slide the console forward to accommodate the speakers, rather than start hacking up the center console. Was wondering if anyone has ever tried this, and how it worked out.

I'm thinking it would most likely need a different length shifter cable, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I'm not taking into account... because there is ALWAYS something I didn't plan for lol.

Why not just redo the box? Put the amps under the seats and jus have the subs behind the seat?

Redo the setup using "Shallow Mount" subs, do a Fiberlass enclosure, relocate the amp/s under the seat (pretty old lookin amp there!). With modern technology you should be able to redo it nicely. And also, ditch the 6 disk. Mp3/wma/usb head unit will save you space there as well. Plz don't hack the console!

I'm way ahead of you on the gear. The stereo was this way when I bought the truck, and redoing it has been on my list. Shallow mount subs kit too soft though. I already have a set of Cadence 8's (rms 500W each) and a Kicker ix 1000.1. Haven't picked a headunit yet, but it will be replaced as well. The changer is going in the trash.

As for redoing the box, I just LIKE the design of it. With the seats up, I think it looks pretty nifty.

(Ignore the red vinyl, that will be going away)

I cursed at it at first, but it has grown on me. I really do not WANT to hack at the console. I think sliding it forward is a much better solution, and I think it should work out alright. I just want to be prepared for any hiccups I can anticipate along the way.

Oh, and before anyone tells me I'm crazy... That is a long since foregone conclusion. ;)

X2 on the get a new box . If the new speakers aren't identical to the last on airspace and power requirements , a new box would sound better too .

The shifter boot, indicator, throw is going to get all goofed up.

I think if you set on keeping box build a custom center console also.

If you move the whole tray the console is mounted to you wont have any issues with the shifter lining up with the indicator. The tray bolts to the floor. Doing this is no big deal. only thing i think you might have to modify would be the shifter thru the hole location, which you would redo by the same amount of forward console distance.

i guess every one telling you to modify your speaker setup just didnt know this.
