Hard 2-3 shift...and other things.

Ok so I decided to drive my truck further than 2 blocks today after swapping to a built tranny.

I have a few issues and I need some input.
The 2-3 shift at 10% throttle feels like a car hit me from behind. I mean it feels like the trans jumped into the cab.

I have never driven a car with a 9/11 2800 stall before. So tell me if what i am feeling is natural or should be checked. I didn't lock it up and it felt like it was slipoping and would not get a full 15 psi boost after I was moving, at the 1-2 shift it was slow, probably cause I didn't lock it up, then in third it felt like a rocket as it hit 14 pounds.

When I did a boost launch it shot forward but then lagged,What gives?

if you have only driven that far I'd say make sure the TV cable is set right, it can def cause hard part throttle shifts.

also give it a few more miles so that the assm lube works it's way out completly. shot forward and lags doesnt give much details. could it be the tune of the truck and are you boost lauching a new trans with 2 blocks on it?

the truck pulling and not pulling could be many things other than the trans. if your not getting boost and you are getting deto it could be the tune and not the trans.

No this trans has some miles on it. I got it from somebody on the board, I beleive they said it was in Bretts truck?.

I adjusted the TV cable all the way out and it the problem was still there. Should I back off the cable allitle, kinda using it as an adjustment tool?

When I said shot forward I meant it was a good launch w/ about 5psi off the line.

I also don't have a datamaster so I don't know or can't give anymore details, I guess I will have to let up until I make it to the Miami meet.

1-2 shift was slow or delayed?
If your adjusting the TV cable all the way out and the conditions completely unchanged, the TV valve in the valvebody is stuck giving you max pressure. This affects your shift points and shift characteristics. You'll damage the trans if you don't get it corrected(if it's not damaged already). Try letting it heat up just idleing and then disconnect the tv cable from the linkage on the throttle body. Let the throttle position stay the same. You just want to tug on the cable 10 or 15 times. Hopefully the balance feed in the separator plate will allow the valve to unstick. When they built it, they should've used either a Transgo TV valve setup or a kicker spring. Either of them will prevent the condition your experiencing.
The other thing that causes this is crud from the cooler or lines getting into the trans and sticking in that valve.

Re: Hard 2-3 shift...and other things.

I should clarify the 1-2 shift wasn't slow, just the truck. I did clean the cooler and evacuated the lines before putting the trans in. I will try letting it heat up and see if it helps.

Also tell me how every day driving with a stall that high should feel.

It'll kinda feel "mushy" or "sluggish" on the takeoff from a stop sign/light until you get used to it. Then what'll happen is you'll give it more throttle quicker and after a while you won't notice it. Going slowly over speed bumps will take the most getting used to but you'll get it.
