FACT: A GN on sticky tires (which they didn't have outta of the factory) would run with or beat a SY dead-out.

From a roll the GN.

The GN did run 13s outta the factory "stock" regardless of what the bias mags said.

I've witnessed and proved all this thru the yrs.

Don't get me wrong i like the SYs.I even own one.

The champ of what? You are talking about three completely different vehicles with 10-15 years between them. One goes like stink with pi$$ poor handling, one has neck snapping speed but poops out sorta quick in stock form, and the last makes the other two look, well, like old technology. Go read about them for yourself and make your own decision which is the champ.

1/4 mile, Stock vs Stock including tires. Sticky tires would really help the RWD drive cars. It goes Syclone, Lightning, & GN

From a roll Lightnings, GN's and Sy are pretty close.

I have raced a low 11 second GN I beat him but He should have beat me, passed me after the 1/4 like I was standin sill!

I have ran the same new lighting 3 times
1 from a stop not even close SY won
2 from a 60mph roll he pulled alittle then I slowly passed him
3 from a 30mph roll I pulled away I let him have the go but I launched it this time and pulled him to 120mph

I thought he would kill me from a roll but somone told me the lighting will not downshift from a roll, anyone know if the is true?

I dont think I have ever seen a "stock" buick altleast not around my neck of the woods. The other question, are you grouping the GNX in with all other GN's? If thats the case, buick in the 1/4 for sure. There are about 6 buicks that show up at the motorplex down here I think the slow guy runs 11.80's. The fast one runs a 10.30 and the guy drive it to the track from Arlington the killer thing about it is that it looks showroom stock from the outside.

But I also agree these are three seperate beast! I havent seen a fast lighting yet but Im sure its possible.

I'm refering to reg GNs to answer your question."THE PO-BOYS BUICK"

I've never seen nor do i believe new Ls running low 13s.If ya do the math it makes no sense.Maybe making 400 RWHP would be the only way i could see it.

Yes they are separate beast no doubt. The GN handles like a brick and stops like a boat anchor.I've owned, built, and raced these cars 11 yrs along with SY dealings as well.
Now i'm more parcial to the old V8 Buicks.

I've never raced a new gen L from a roll with a "stock" but my money would be on the GN without a doubt.

I did own a '94 & '95 L new and they are no comparison to the new gen Ls i'll say that

dude, why dont you just ask how SyTy's do against every car in the fuckin world while your at it!? Next its gonna be Syclone vs. Lightning vs. AMC Gremlin.
Get a grip, go buy one or go read some Car and Driver and figure it out yourself....

by the way, any stoplight race I have had with a buick so far, I was the winner...

I raced 12.1 sec GN and lost by only 2 car lengths 60-120, with my 13.6 sec Vette. Why, he didn't have his race gas and he didn't have adavantage drag radials. Low ET at the track don't always equal Low ET on the Street.

Who is the real champ of vehicles. The lighting has the topspeed the sy has the holeshot but can the gn still pull away?

Please tell us a little about yourself, what car you drive now, age and the like so we can get a feel for where you are coming from.

I'll make a beliver out of you  My friend have a 2001 Lightning stock except for K/N filter, he ran a 13.4 (temp in the 70's) while i witness it. He was really supriced him self running a mid 13's. So they are out there, belive it or not. It's like the Sy, when they where new some ran mid 13's and some ran high 13's or very low 14's. It all depends on the vehicle. I work on Ford's, some run like hell and some (same eng and miles) runs like dogs

If I remeber right, Lightnings respond very well to air intake mods. I think they can gain 20hp just from a good air intake setup.

From a roll, say 40mph+, stock for stock, a Gen2 Lightning will walk away from a Syclone.

I was fortunate enough to have two friends that purchased GN's brand new in '86 and had many Full Throttle rides in them. I really think a Gen2 L could beat them too from a roll. At least up to 100mph or so where the trucks brick-like shape will slow it down.

All i'm saying is it would have to be making 400 RWHP to run like that."MOST DON'T"Ford is saying that the 4,900lb (or whatever it weighs) lead sled is making 380 crank.

If some are running low 13s they are making more than 340 RWHP.Would have to be around 400.

To go back to '86 with a new L i'd put my $$ on the Buick from a roll or deadout.

When I used to spend more time at the NLOC boards it was pretty common knowledge that the Gen 2's made more than their advertised horsepower. I remember three stock '99 or '00s (rated at 360 HP) getting dynoed and all were making 380 to 400. The '01s, rated at 380, make closer to their advertised horsepower but have other mods that let them run faster than the 99/00s.
