Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

I own both, 5k mile hardtop 86 GN, 87 hardtop GN i just won original stock show class at E -Town buick weekend, A 92 30k mile Ty in black I drive everyday, 5 miles a day to work and then cover it,lol. I love these turbo cars. i would not trade them for anything. For me GN's have been VERY reliable. THE BEST!! So has my Ty,my 25k mile white 93 Ty was reliable also but was rarley driven. I just bought 3 in stainless exhaust i am putting on but Yup, i driver it everyday. It is a daily driver show truck. Anything with High miles and gets beat on i guess will eventually get broken. i baby every car i have and have had great luck. For me, I choose BOTH!! realistically a GN is a collector car and would not be considered a daily driver in my opinion.I bought my TY so i can put my little boy in a baby seat also and still drive a car that is crazy fun. what ever you choose you win!

Truckless. For now.
Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

that picture really makes me nautious.. that ty in the snow. arrggh give me your truck

Why? I bought my truck to drive, rain, snow or shine. It doesn't do it any good to sit in a garage to be looked at...(even though that's what it's doing now do to other priorities.)

If I owned a Marlboro Sy, and had to get it just as dirty, I wouldn't flinch either... Shoot, given the chance, I'd pull a Morgan S-Series Nats in a Marlboro.

If cars weren't meant to be driven, you'd be able to buy them without a motor.

Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

i don't care what people say, i used mine as a DD through everything, all weather, road trips, vacations ect.. i added mods and they never caused any problems. doing things wrong and cheap is what makes these unreliable. sure every weekend i was under the hood doing small things, but that is because i am overly cautious and i like to do it. i'm sure eventually it will need a trans and i am going to search for more power, but as it sits now the trans still snaps my neck and i can still stomp mostly anything. i love being able to drive everyday in a vehical that i don't ever see on the road. i can't drive common cars that everyone else has, but thats me

Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

One more thing: My agent quoted me almost double to inusre the Ty over my Buick. Is that typical for all of you that have/had both?

I never have owned a Grand National, but having owned a Syclone Typhoon, and Corvette Convertible, they definately have been for me at sports car level of insurnace. My Syclone was slightly cheaper (less than $50) than my Corvette (when insure at the same time), but it was a convertible and they usually have a higher rates due to theft. My Typhoon was about 20-25% more expensive to insure than my Syclone (also insure at the same time). I think its due to it being an SUV.

Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

I would be paying less than $600/year for both as well, but it comes out to about $380 for the Ty and $220 for the Buick. Just didn't see a reason for such a discrepancy, especially considering the AWD/ABS that makes the Ty safer, and I thought the S10 body parts would be much more plentiful and cheaper (although I am not sure on this, just assuming).

NCTyphoon: What did it cost to buy your GN back?

Raist: What do you have you are looking to trade? PM me some details.

NCTyphoon: What did it cost to buy your GN back?

$1500 :D to buy it back, roughly $5000 to put her back together and painted (major front frame damage), and plenty of $$ left over. I was surprised how much they valued a then 15 yr old "Regal" with 135,000 mi on it!. Yes it now has a salvage title, but selling it has never been an option for me. I may as well be buried in the damn car....
BTW, My Ty is $8 cheaper than the GN on my insurance

Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

I may have to shop another insurance carrier. I think I am getting hosed. And I have $1,000 deductibles.

Re: Grand National or Sy/Ty?

lol thats why alot of people sell theirs as a rolling chassis... sometimes they are better that way and alot less expensive.
