GP on carbon fiber hoods!

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

I do have my extra Sy gate modified for an Infusion plug and waiting on the second side mold to be finished. I'll announce something when ready.
I have a Ty gate in stock......it would come later on. I do believe the Florida guys were still working on a smoothie Sy gate? I can't speak for them though.

The stock full CF gates will be sweet and strong as heck. I've engineered in some stout light substructures.

It'll be stock full CF hoods first, then this Goodmark 2" cowl hood next. Stay tuned.
Cheers,Vinny

Hey hey good to hear someone is stepping up and making these CF pieces for us. Thanks!!

Anyway got a couple questions. When dealing with CF fenders we run into the problem of them basically waving at you and not being thick enough. Are you going to use more layers to prevent that or a different technique?

I am not too familiar with CF products just know where I have gone wrong before. Let me know what your plans are and maybe ill pick one up! Hell maybe have you make fenders too if you can do it so they don't flap!

Three things here to consider from that wavy part...
/
1-their mold wasn't perfect or the plug wasn't.
2-they used Polyester resins.
3-Their lay-up schedule had no engineered application for tow. The most important issue with a span on a structural part is its lay-up schedules.Otherwise....they yeild to the greater forces around them ...twist,bow,warp and sag.:(

One of my strenghts is the engineered side of composites. Then next is my mold building techniques. Then my plug/parent part preparation.
A tri-fecta of applied efforts that yields a proper strong lightweight part. I'm planning on designing the tailgates so 2 fat-a$$ed fools can sit on it and drink beer....and still be light.
Cheers,Vinny

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

Not to Hi Jack the Thread. I think its great to see anyone making carbon parts, but I Have been working with a company hear in town in Mooresville NC that will make anything I need. As we all no to make something you have to supply them with a part that will be used for the mold, so that peice will be distroyed and no longer will be returned.

I am having them right now making me a replica of the stock dash housing in full Carbon Fiber this stuff is real Carbon not a fiberglass mold with Carbon weave laided on top. I stoped by yesterday and they where just pulling the dash mold out of the oven, so he said in the next couple of weeks I should have the first peice.

I wil start a thread on this when I get the peice ready to show.

Could you post a price range for said piece?

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

hmm.. Very interested in this project.

My dash is missing.... well, 80% of the bolts/pop rivets that hold it together *grumble*

It would be nice to get something different in its place.

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

can I still get in on a hood or is it to late??

LOL, Late? No. Early? Maybe ;)

Vinny's work has been playing hell with his time to work on these hoods, so it has taken a lot longer than he thought. Hopefully these will wrap up some time soon :)

Re: GP on carbon fiber hoods!

i was thinking that you guys should still have VIS do the ones for the guys that are in a hurry and want the look more than a REAL FULL CF hood and tail gate and for the guys that want the REAL thing then they can wait for CarbonFiber AWD to finish, it pleases everyone and i know i could go out and put one post on all the S series forums and fill the G P spots.

but thats just my :2cents:

plus you know CarbonFiber AWD gets bored in his spare time and needs something to keep him busy, J/K i saw his posts of how much time he does not have, i give him 2 thumbs up for going out of his way like this, and i'm sure the REAL ones will be more than awesome, i'm anxious to see a finished product:tup:

add yourself to the list accordingly

the options are...

1)- CF skinned fiberglass 2" cowl hood, blk. gelcoated underframe. =565.00$

2)- CF skinned fiberglass 2"Cowl hood w/ Cf skinned underframe.
=825.00$

3)- CF Full carbon 2" cowl hood w/ full carbon underframe and clear gelcoat =1100.00$

Same combinations regardless of 2' cowl or stock hoods.

The only options being pin-on style....and hood shock reinforcement. I'll work out those
prices later on.
