Stock hood molds being finished this week(substructure done).

2" Cowl hood (Goodmark) is here awaiting top skin molding.

Sy tailgate has been donated and is sitting atop a work stand( awaiting plugging for molding).

It's probably not necessary, but I wanted to chime in and say that Vinny is spot on with his info, hes one of the few who has brought up issues with materials/fabrication of these parts. From what hes talking about, he's using one of the best manufacturing processes for these types of parts. Heat cured epoxy/vinyl ester and an UV gelcoat are exactly the way these should be made. (I can't imagine a turbo exhaust housing helps a room cured polyurethane hood stay solid)

The only real concern is spare time is a commodity with anyone (it took me 6 months to cut, mount, and paint chair rail in my house)

Hell, I should take some time off and come visit, add a pair of hands to the workforce. (My wife went to SMS -er MSU and probably wouldn't mind visiting)

Dumb ?? follows, How does the clear gelcoat hold up to the Sunlight? Does it need any other work or just bolt on? TIA

Twin74's......hello homeboy ! I still want a ride ;) ,but zero sponsorship on this stuff. Way to much involved. I'll PR something else more practical perhaps later.

I know everyone is anxious ( no more than IVANKOBARBELL)...but all shipping quotes and the like will take place once hard parts are in hand.

SyTyArchives.....thanks for that. I am often not sure if I say too much or too little when trying to explain these things to others.

Sy2455......the clear gelcoat I use is UV protected and stable in direct sunlight. Most Automotive clears,euro's for example.....will add even more protection, and are abit more scratch resistant than gelcoats....so it doesn't hurt anything to overcoat them.
They can be bolted straight on out of the box/carton,however you choose.

I injured my back a week ago.I am in the recovering phase right now.I'm able to stand for short periods as of today.Obviously, this has hampered my progress,but not stopped me . I'll update as I can.

Vinny, Sorry to hear about your back. Take care of it as you only get 1, Mine was injured when we got rear ended about 13 years ago and from time to time it will give me trouble to this day. If you can, try a Inversion Board, they really help alot.

Thanks guys,means alot. I just wanted to post that I am working all weekend and tonite at the shop as I can to continue headway. Looks like being on my back a week is all this has cost me...time. :rant: .....oh well,better than the alternatives. ;)
I'm working hard at it between cramping incidents. Just REALLY glad to be off the pain killers......I don't do well with NARCs.

Speaking of clearcoats, did anyone see the write-up on the new ZR-1? The carbon-fiber pieces that are exposed to direct sunlight are treated with an additive in the clear that costs about $60,000 a gallon!! Back pain is no fun. Good luck on your recovery.

I have a Hood box from my new reflexxions hood at my shop still! If you need a good box to ship with. I have all the corner pads too. Will work for a 2" cowl or stock.

Thanks Frank.....unfortunatly, it'll cost the same to ship that box empty or full,lol. Otherwise I'd say "yes".
I'll just have to lurk at a local body shop or two when I start shipping them....for some discarded cartons.

What is the deal with cowl hoods? It's my opinion that they are a bad addition, unless it's needed for engine reasons. Maybe it's just me but I think they completly take away from the great looks of these trucks. Almost trailer trashy. I am very sorry if you like them, just my thoughts, it is past the 1980's anyways.

I would agree with you if the cowl hood wasn't squared like everything else with these trucks but the goodmarks and harwoods are squared and in my opinion look really nice the raised 2" version.
