Governor Cover Problem : Fixed

As most people know, to change WOT shift rpms on a 700R4, you need to modify the governor. There are a couple threads on here about which weight/spring combo you want. I've been playing with mine for over a year. Each time i would rebuilt the governor, and replace it in the trans, the truck would shift different, wierd different. My results with the same combos were never the same.

A couple times i noticed my governor cap was dented from the outside. Tip: when installing the governor cap, always tap it on by the edges, never hit the dome. I never hit the dome, i always hit on the flange. So i knocked out the dent. After a couple more governor rebuilds, i saw another dent in the cap, so i ordered a new cap. Put it on, and another dent got in it.

Long story short.. I have a bolt-on front driveshaft loop. The safety loop bolts around the trans crossmember. The hardware that holds the safety loop together is really close to the governor cap. And if your not careful, when you tighten the safety loop, it presses a dent into the governor cap, and interferes with its normal operation. And you feel like an idiot for not catching it sooner.

Best of luck, the end.
