Got my Sy, now a few questions.

So my Sy was delivered yesterday. It runs great, now I understand what everyone means about the little smile that these things create, haha.
Now it has the ABS and Brake light on. This is a common problem by the looks of things, is there anything in particular for me to look for to solve this?
It also has a tick in the valves, which from reading seems to be normal, but can in be corrected?
The only other thing I have is a lot of small coolant leaks from it sitting, all the hoses need to be tightened, which will be the first step.
What else do I need to look for?

I "fixed" my ABS light by unplugging the damn thing. I will be ripping it out soon and doing the ABS delete:)

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

The injectors are well known to make a ticking sound. Check that its not just the injectors.
If its not the injectors I would make a valve adjustment to see if the ticking goes away.

Congrats for getting a SyTy

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

When I got mine first thing I did was change all the fluids... I've switched everything but the tranny over to Royal Purple. I also took mine to the GM dealer and had them put it on the radiator/coolant system flushing machine for about half an hour.
Other than than you'll want to go through all the vacuum lines with a fine-tooth comb and look for any signs of cracking - especially those hard, black plastic elbows and u-turns.
Might not be a bad idea to get a new set of the correct PCV valves on it if it's still got the originals.
You'll probably want to do a tuneup (plugs, diz cap, rotor, plug wires, air filter) just to get familiar with how the plugs look/burn and to make sure the other items are fresh.
Make sure the pump is working in the intercooler system - new radiator caps wouldn't be a bad idea.
...then just enjoy! Welcome to the club :D

Yes everything is original on this beast, it has 20,000 original miles, and nothing has been upgraded which is why I bought it, as I don't plan on doing much either. The vac lines look good so far, I have to get further into it. Everything works except the air, even the cruise works.
As for the ticking, it is pretty loud, but I never thought of the injectors, I hope that is it.
I also need a front driveshaft boot, mine has a rip in it, are these easy to come by?

On your ABS there is a fix mentioned by DaveP so search for that.

Where's the sticky for a new owner and the basic reliability checks??

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

I cleared the abs light on my old sy with a paper clip. My other sy has no abs at all, that also fixes it ;)

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

Those boots are pretty hard to find, and from my personal experience are not a permenant solution. Get a HD propshaft like a Gilbert or D and R, I have a D and R, $200 cheaper than the Gilbert and just as nice.

Congratulations:tup: :welcome: to the club. I totally agree with WyoSyclone. Even with the low miles the hoses tend to dryrott (which is prob. what happened to your boot). Adam (SY0237) sells sillicone vac. kits.

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

Managed to get one side of the fuel rail adjusted, and it's better already, now I just have to do the hard side. Thanks for all the info guys, helps a lot. I also have a coolant leak that I have to find, should be fun. As far as searching goes, what is the secret, I know that member DaveP has a lot of info on here but I can't seem to find it. I want to fix the ABS light, and the brake light is on too.

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

i had this problem on the company s10 i drove, i cleared it by unplugging the black box connected to the brake booster, for a couple mins, it reset it. if that doesn't work hit up Davep as he may have some more tricks up his sleeve.

if you don't clear the code and drive in gravel, i doubt you will since you wanna keep it nice, but our driveway is gravel, and upon light braking to come up to the road the rear would lock up on me.

Re: Got my Sy, now a few questions.

Thanks Dave, yes this thing is going to stay original, so the ABS is staying whether I like it or not, haha. I will start with pulling the codes as soon as I get a chance. My first job is to get the coolant leaks fixed, it's either a bad heater hose or maybe intake gasket. The intake gasket has been replaced once, so maybe they screwed something up, anyways I won't know till I get the top pulled apart so I can see everything. Man did they pack a lot of stuff under these hoods. Anyways, thanks for everyone's help so far, I'll keep updating as I go along, and I'll try to figure out this search thing too.
