Got my new ty!

Re: Got my new ty!

Yeah I wonder how it can have the original tires. Wouldn't they be dry rotted by now? I bought Sy #0044 in 2001 with 26000 on it and the original Firehawk SVX were in need of replacement, that's for sure.

In addition, I bought a set of tires in 2005 and kept them stored & unused, had to move them the other day and found 1 was already starting to show small cracks like dry rot. :dunno:

I've got the OEM tires. They're on the Sy right now.

Mmmmmmm. Clean stocker. Hasn't lost much since March 22 of '93, when it left PAS.

Can you do the SyTy world a favor and take a bunch of close-ups of the engine compartment?
Particularly the stuff that has chalk marks, and stickers on it? There are so few nice stockers left that haven't been mauled.

Re: Got my new ty!

this truck had 20000 plus miles on it in 2006? Other than that it is nice and clean.I too had the original firehawks on mine when I bought my white/white '93 with 26000 miles last year.My OEM tires did not have dry rot ,and were in nice condition but I changed them anyway becuase I didn't want to have a blowout on the highway from a 15 year old tire.

ABSOLUTELY! Thanks for the suggestion. Ive already got so much help from this community, It would be my pleasure to offer something back! I will do it this weekend.

Heres a couple of quick pics, maybe some of you eagle eyes will spot something I should be aware of.

Re: Got my new ty!

Well what's the condition of them? Are there little hairline cracks where the sidewall meets the tread?

Hell, I don't own a vehicle that doesn't have that. :)

A couple of them do, but the other two look pretty good.

They're getting closer to the wear bars though... gonna be time soon. I gotta re-do the clear on them, anyway.

Man that's clean. I'd venture to say that's as clean or cleaner than the GM-owned trucks I've seen.

Are your fenderwells the same color as the body, or are they the greenish tinted black that the radiator support (where the stickers are) is?

I was starting to feel good about my engine compartment again, until I saw this. I'll be polishing for months, now

Thanks for the pics. Can you get some of the sticker on the ABS and the ones on the wiper motor?

I'm trying to document what they should look like, so that 20 years from now when someone is trying to do a restore, we've got detail.

Thanks,

Re: Got my new ty!

That is just amazing, possibly one of the cleanest, most showroom-looking factory SyTy engines I have ever seen.

Is it possible this truck has been restored at some point? There's barely even dirt in any crevices. Most surprising is the clean lower intake manifold, I'm not sure I have ever seen one that didn't have ugly black overspray from the factory. Maybe someone else can clarify?

Very impressive to whoever kept this truck in such fine condition all these years!

I was gonna say the same thing about overspray. Also, the firewall and engine compartment paint is flawless. Mine had "misses" where the gun didn't get an even coat of black all over. Can you make out the number on the firewall behind the radiator?

It might be possible that, considering the original intended owner, that this one was "watched" as it went through assembly.

I'd have to agree that it may well be the cleanest example I've seen. Storage usually causes some rust, but this appears to be free of it.

I would be afraid to even go near the engine compartment with wrenches. :)
